Fever and the Beast
« on: Sep 1st, 2007, 5:15pm »

I have had a fever (I believe it's tonsilitis) for the past few days and have been having a really hard time with my attacks. They are increasing in frequency, duration and intensity.

Is this a common thing that can happen when one is sick? Is there anything I shouldn't take (ie over the counter etc) that could possibly be making it worse?

Thanks,
Lindz

I'd be looking into a script for some Zithromax for those tonsils.

I've never taken anything over the counter that aggravates the CH, nor have I noticed any other sickness that makes it worse.

In fact, there are a few OTC meds that will actually constrict your blood vessels, I believe, but I don't know which ones. I guess it's either never been a issue for me or I haven't taken that close of notice.

(There are a few Rx meds that are like anti-CH remedies - namely the ones that treat ED, which wouldn't be an issue for you.)

Since insurance for me is kind of an issue for me right now, I'm self medicating (with advice from dad of course) and taking some Cipro I had hoarded. Otherwise it's the ER for me. No, thank you to that.

Yeah, hopefully that will never be an issue for me, well for DH

Speaking of DH, he went to our PCP and his BP has been high lately (I would think the academy would do that to someone) so guess what they put him on...Verapamil. Never heard of it till my CH's started and now we are both on it.

Hey Lindsay

Sorry to hear you are not well but please do not self medicate. If you do have tonsilitis it would be most likely Gram positive bacteria (typical organisms) such as Streptococci that cause the infection. Cipro ( Ciprofloxacin ) is an antibiotic that treats Gram negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa ( atypical organism) which more commonly cause pneumonia or lower respiratory tract infection. Tonsilitis is upper respiratory and involves different types of bacteria.

Taking the wrong antibiotic for the wrong infection can be disastrous. Firstly it wont work and secondly it compromises your immune system making you more sick than you already are.

Cipro interacts with cafeine also.

Please go to see your doc and get a proper diagnosis and the right meds for it.

Take care and sending you healing vibes.

Lotus,

Thank you for your concern.
I decided to give in and go to the ER as soon as DH gets home (if this monsoon we are having is over) I feel like absolute crap. I figure I might as well at least get started on my way to feeling better since tomorrow is DD Mia's 2nd Birthday and I would hate to ruin it for her and all the effort i put into it to feel like crap on it. (It's a Lady Bug party Cheesy)

After some research on tonslitis, I don't know if that is i what i have since only one tonsil is swollen and very red. It doesn't hurt that much it just makes things difficult for me to swallow.

*HUGS*

Lindsay,

I hope you're feeling a lot better now! hug

I've been lucky with my fever times during ch years; for some reason the beast left me alone then... but as soon as I felt slightly better, the beast returned and took back what it had missed.

Happy Birthday to Mia! Smiley
Those cupcakes and cake look wonderful! If you're doing something similar, the birthday girl will be a happy one I'm sure. Smiley

Lots of PF wishes,
Sanna

Lindsay make a cup of hot tea, put some real honey  and lemon juice and drink slowly so the honey and the lemon stay in your throat the longest and you will see how much better you will feel.

Enjoy the party and please don't forget to post some pics of the cutie birthday girl! we love to see pics!! Cheesy
