Could sore throat and or pluriacy like pain in shoulder blade be caused by O2 use. I usually use an O2 air condenser, but lately I have been using pure O2.

I would get a rare occassional sore throught.  Never had pluriacy while using o2.  So I can't answer that question.

I had several bouts of pleurisy as a child. I use 02, a lot, and have never had the shoulder pain you describe. I get a sore throat if I use it for a long period of time, over 20 mnutes. Many use a "bubbler" to get some moisture as the 02 out of the tank is bone dry.

Do you think that there is a differance between the O2 tank and the air condenser?

Are you referring to a compressor?  I had someone ask me about using a compressor as opposed to getting tanks refilled all the time, and since I didn't know the answer, I asked Jonny and this is what he said:

Compressed air is exactly what you are breathing right now except that it is well....compressed. Not the pure 02 we need to abort, and the generator can and does get rusty inside from moisture, so breathing that would be a big no-no.

This may or may not be the answer to the question you are asking but I thought I'd throw it out here anyway.  Also,  I've never heard of anyone getting Pleurisy from a regular 02 tank.  Pleurisy is caused by a virus.

It is actually called an oxygen concentrator, I'm guessing it changes the air into "pure" oxygen

Hi Jobette,

I did some research on what are called O2 concentrators.  They take room air and, through some process I don't understand, turn it into a pure 02.  If this isn't what you are using, please ignore the rest of this post  Grin

I found a few problems with them.

#1 on my list is that they don't deliver 100% O2.  Typically the best they can achieve is 85% O2.

What flow rate does yours deliver?  I know some of them can flow at 15lpm but not many.

Lastly, they take several minutes to get ramped up to max O2 output.  IMO these are precious minutes in which the beast can ramp up to a real pacer.

If it's working for you, great!  I wouldn't expect them to work for most folks with CH though.  To me, you can't beat a tank of pure 100% O2 and  a high flow regulator.

Wishing you PFDAN.
