What do you mean? Like an MRI, to see the brain, and the arteries, including the carotids? Tried it for what? A treatment? For a diagnosis?

I had cervical x-rays. They wanted to also rule out discogenic infringement on the nerve. This had nothing to do with 1970's music

As I was told, when I first joined these boards, no question is stupid, except the one you didn't ask. However, that being said, I'm not sure any of us know exactly what your question was???? Please tell us a little more about yourself, have you been diagnosed with CH, what meds have you tried, what are your cycles like, etc. We will be happy to help with information, we just need to know a little more about you, what you are dealing with and what you are asking.

it was suggested to do a triplex carotid.not from a doc but a good friend who happens to be a nurse.of course she told me that she is not qualified for that but as i ve been on many meds but fewer exams i had nothing to lose.so this q came up and just wanted to see if anyone else has done something similar or it is probably a waste of time.yes perhaps is hyppothalamus but again maybe not.who knows?of course all this is probably stupid but again i feel stupid so dont expect anything better than this

| It sounds as if you may be talking about "cluster lumps". Some of us get them, others do not. Apparently, they are nerve ganglia and surrounding tissue at the back of the neck and elsewhere that swell during an attack. Some people have found considerable relief applying ice or a cold pack or a bag of frozen vegetables directly to them. I question whether surgery to the arteries or veins would help. Just recently, someone here reported that when they had surgery to a partially blocked carotid artery, their cluster headaches RETURNED after an absence of more than a decade. Best wishes, George

I start shadowing in the neck right below the ear. That's where my "lump" is. It the travels up towards my temple and then ya know what comes next.

Yes, the onset of an attack for me always begins with a "stiff neck" that first shows up near c7/T1 at the base of my neck, and then the fun begins. Best, George

Good Day Black, No warranty, as I guess we have all found. There have been studies that show the arteries expand quite suddenly when an attack occurs. Migraines do this too. Both blood vessel constrictors (imitrex/caffeine) and expanders (verapamil) may help if it can prevent sudden changes in the blood vessels. The hypothalamus was found to be much larger in those of us who have cluster headaches, though they have yet to explain this or fix it. And yes, I suppose we can blame Adam (and Eve). Though without ability to feel pain, we likely wouldn't have intensity of pleasures either. Perhaps we will get double our money back on our warranty from malfunctioning heads one day? Prayers for you, Rich

And I have tried looking for a hypothalumus for sale-they don't even list them on EBay! Had MRI, CAT scan years ago-no abnormalities. I get a ganglion lump at base of my skull every hit. Hang in there. PFDAN y'all kathy

Cycle before last I had an MRI done on my left carotid (cluster side). My neurologist thought he could hear a bruit in there but it came up clear.
