Draining of Sinus

Hi All, I'm new to this website but am a 6 year sufferer of this dreaded headache. I wanted to see if folks experience the draining of their sinus before the headache starts (only on the side where the headache occurs). Another question is if most have had an MRI performed before concluding that you should be diagnoised with cluster headache. Thanks!

Hi Mike! I think you should have all kind of tests done before to be sure there is nothing else going on. it is important to rule out other causes for the headaches. Some of us do have the nose running thing. I get congested every time. It is one of the symptoms. You can take the CH quiz to the left, it will give you a better idea about CH. In the mean time keep reading here and in O.U.C.H. pain free wishes for you!! Rosy.

Thanks. I've had a CAT scan done and nothing showed up. I also take Claritin-D in hopes of reducing the sinus stuffiness and the resulting headache that follows. Has this worked for anyone else?

I take benadryl but it does not really help with CH. As soon the CH is gone the draining is gone also.

Mike, The watery eye and runny/stuffed nose on the affected side is one of the criteria of this condition, so you're not alone in this. Having an MRI is done to rule out other things that might be responsible for this pain. There really is no TEST that a Dr. can take and say with all probably this is a cluster headache, so MRI and other tests are done to eliminate and get the diagnosis down to CH. By the way, I see you are in Concord..why don't you join us at: http://www.calouch.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl We are a chapter of OUCH. Linda
