And another one

I feel like i'm taking over the board. My apologizes. I got a few hours of sleep I took 150 mgs of trazadone on a suggestion that I got here. I was pleased with the results. Until I woke up with the beast. This one however was different from what I usually experience. Usually when I wake up with one it takes a few minutes to really kick in. When I awoke this time it felt like I was smack dap in the middle of nice 6 or 7. Was this because my body was so worn from lack of sleep that it took longer for me to wake? Or is that how most or even a few people wake up to them?

Don't apologize. No need to feel like you're taking over the board. We've all been there. It's possible, I suppose, that you were so worn out that you didn't wake until it began to ramp up. Often, they ramp up so quickly that it can be full-blown before you know it. I know that happens to me. More than ninety percent of my hits wake me out of REM sleep, so I'm very familiar with what you're saying. Sometimes, it's all I can do to stumble out of bed and get to my "place" before the door to hell opens. I try not to involve the rest of my family if I can help it. It's my battle, not theirs. Glad to hear the trazadone had a somewhat positive effect--perhaps that delayed your waking. Don't give up on the melatonin, though. Some folks here take it with OTC benedryl. Reportedly, it seems to enhance the effect. Best wishes, George

Ah! The foreigners put on such airs Wearing the tangerine suits And their harlequin eyes. The pain they inspire Draws in harmonica melodies And the feathers of birds Which flame up at their touch. It all comes to light in the sheer Debonair. (Ellen)

Thanks for the feedback. These things force me to educate myself on them as they evolve. This place is a life saver as far as information and support goes. Luckily I live alone so aside from the random chick (which never happens anyways) no one else is really affected by them.

| Well now honeybun thats no surprise 'cos women are only called "chics" by the worms they pick up I've dreamed before that I'm getting hit and in my dream I'm dealing with it - only to wake and find I'm not and its had a chance to really ramp up. This is where O2 is brilliant as you can keep it beside the bed and just turn it on and start huffing. If you can't get a prescription for it then there is always the welders O2 option which others in the know can tell you more about. I saw on another post of yours that you hhad tried verap to no effect, were you on the normal release or the sustained release version and what dose were you on? Verap is a highly "personal" drug and although there seems to be a median at around 480mg alot of people need to go much higher for relief. Some people are on 960mg per day - its not uncommon by any stretch. Helen

I was on an steadily increased dosage for about 5 months. I lost my insurance by the 6th month. Never went further with it after that. It's been about 5 months or so since I was taking it so any statement about my dosages would be a guess. Probably not a very good either. Using the term chick was part of the humor. I'm respectful to women that sleep with me. Not entirely exclusively either. (humor) (kinda) I'm thinking more and more that I need to get oxygen. It's a harsh reality for me to live with and the whole being this sick thing doesn't agree with me well. There's a part of me still that wants to "tough it out." I'm failing miserably i know but pride is a tough thing to get rid off. I fought this for 3 years w/o seeing anyone about it. It's my own fault i know but, it's who I am.

Well you're not saying anything that we haven't all felt too with regards to trying to tough it out. Its a good attitude but only until CH is taking up more of your life than you're actually LIVING. It may be worth trying the verap again with a prednisone taper to begin while waiting for theverap to take effect. You need to be prepared to keep increasing the dose (under doctors supervision) until it becomes effective though however I know where you're coming from re insurance (Pred and verap ARE cheap drugs comparatively though so you may be able to work that - I don't know) I definitely think O2 is the way to go. Once you are able to abort the hits you'll be able to see more clearly to preventing them if possible and getting back into work. That's the goal! I don't know if there is any help such as medicare that you would be eligible for or not but it would definitely be worth looking into as well. Helen (I was only teasing about the worms bit too - its why I have the disclaimer of evil wicked mean and nasty!)
