Question about 02??

Does 02 have a shelf-life?  Should we switch out the air after a certain time?  Seems everything else has a "use by" date.  Thanks, Leah.

I dont know for sure, but I wouldn't think so. Knock the dust off and huff away. Huh The container has a shelf life..it needs to be hydrotested. The next test date is stamped on the vessel.

Certainly not in my opinion.
I ran out of medical o2 a couple of weeks ago & grabbed the welding o2 out of the shed to get me through; that o2 was at least 3 years old, it killed the hits I had untill I could get some more med o2 & I'm still alive.

Cheers

I agree with JB...

No worry about the 02....it's only the tanks that need inspection.

I had the same question about keeping bottles on hand between cycles.  Oxygen doesn't break down; it is an element.  But do take care of the bottles, regulator, mask, etc...

So, about the containers...

I bought a brand new one and the only times it's left my closet is for a refill. If I'm careful with it, at what point should I be concerned and have it tested? Will the refill place test it automatically? (It's not medical O2)

Good question, Nani.

Mine is a welder's rental.  I'ts sitting in my living room, gathering dust until I have to use it again, and I'm out of cycle.  What's the tank life???

Pressure vessels need to be hydo-tested every 8 to 12 years depending on rated pressure. This is dictated by the American Society of Metalurgical Engineers.
The date of manufacture is stamped just below the valve on the ring of the tank. The test date is also stamped in the same area. Cu. ft. in volume is there as well. Your supplier is responsible for the hydro test as well as mantainance of the valve. What they do with the tanks is inspect at refill. You take your tanks in and they just swap them for other tanks so you are totally unaware and not responsible for them.
There are new composite fiber vessels coming out and I know nothing about them except they are lighter Grin
that is my story and I am sticking to it Wink
all the best
