im 44 had cluster ha sense i was 15 this cycle is the first time i was smart enough to keep a journal,so anyone new please do so.i even wrote what i ate if i got ticked that day about anything , if i had a orgasm before sleep,"can i say that" anyway girls please respond to this, well not that, because i had a headache 1 hour after sleeping,so no ,it didnt help or hurt.anyway i have noticed looking back that i seemed to start me episode of headaches right when i m ready to start my periode and they wont go away till i start my next periode,im sorry about being blunt.and dont even suggest i have migraines instead of clusters, because im sure of two things in life, i have cluster headaches and there is a god.if i would of kept a journal i would know more info on this for how this subject relates to my ha anyway .i was reading a post from juleit and she said hers stopped at menapause and somebody bursted my bubble and said it usualy brings ch on.

Having my period made no difference in frequency. I had 8 ch every day.  However I always felt that they are more severe and intense in pain durring my period.

I had a hysterectomy 6 years ago.  Thus entering into metapause.  It made no difference.  I still had them.

I almost always experience an increase in my clusters a week - 2 weeks before my period (I'm chronic).  I also get migraines (they seem to be hormonal migraines, triggered right before my period). Ok so bear with me here..... When I get my monthly migraine, it triggers my CH so much worse.  It's like the two ha's feed off eachother till the migraine is gone, then sometimes I'm luckily stuck with outta control clusters for awhile.

Are my ch's triggered by my hormones/monthly period cycle (or whatever ya wanna call it) or is it the migraine that triggers my ch outta control?  OR both?????

In my younger years I used to get monthly headaches with my periods, but they sure weren't clusters - just bad headaches that lasted about 24 hours.

I didn't start getting clusters until I was 42.  Neuro suggested that peri-menopause might have been the trigger for the first cycle.  I'm well past menopause now and the beast comes round regular as clockwork.  Luckily for me, only every 4 or 5 years.

So, I'm sorry to say - don't count on them disappearing when you reach "the change."  Regardless, keeping a journal is always a wise idea.  I still do it for every cycle.

i sure  wish i would of kept a jounal all them years but i remember at least three times it was exactly that way and maybe all.but i get the normal migrains that last for hours tiil i go to bed maybe 3 periodes a year nothing at all compared to ch,i knew reg migraines were linked to periodes but never thought ch could be cause i go three years worth of monthly crap without a trace of ch guess i was just hoping that if its some hormone thats the main cause even in men cause ofcourse more men have ch,i was hoping that it could be a hormone that maybe hasnt even been discovered .thus leading to a cure, just reaching i guess.

I'm like Barbara D.  Had a complete hysterectomy at age 43, instant menopause.  My CH didn't begin until age 53.

LMAO ! Sorry HorseGirl ... your posts are hard to read. I don't mean to sound rude, but your posts are often one big, long, misspelled sentence ... with no punctuation marks. Don't worry, we'll try to adjust  Wink

Horsegirl,

My headaches get really really bad a couple of days right before my period and then first day or 2 of it and then improve somewhat for a few days--mainly they get a lot more painful right before.
The CH cycle itself does not start right before my period though, more like a week or two after it.
I have been getting CH since age 14, now 33 and I in fact have only had my period during the past 2 cycles, all other cycles which last 3 months I would not even get a period.
My neuro thinks that when CH start up again it is related to some aberation in menstrual cycle but didn't go into detail, but seemed to imply that the cycle started late or something and then triggered something.  He didn't go into much detail.

I kept a journal for about 3 cycles. Very helpful because of the information you learn and then in turn forget after the cycle goes away. I learned what not to eat. I learned what could give me relief naturally.
Unfortunately, I threw it away some time ago. Moron me, lol.

I used to keep a journal about my ch; I called it "headache diary", because I started it long before my diagnosis.

Anyway, I don't keep a similar diary anymore, because I lost my diary with my former laptop. These days I mark my hits to my calendar.

Iused to get bad attacks just before my period and during it.  However I had agynae problem and the docs fitted a mirena coil, the one that releases hormones over a 5 yr period.  This stopped my period and stopped the Ch during that time.  I heard that coils and IUd's aren't recommended in the USA, or did I misunderstand that?  If I'm wrong then it could be something to ask your doc about.
The unfortunate thing for me is that since having my last baby, my attacks are every 3 weeks now so it makes  no difference, but it did work at the time.  hope this helps?
