I am currently out of cycle but the attrocious weather conditions we are currently experiencing in the UK are playing havoc with shadowing!

I think that weather can play a part... I half wonder whether the low pressure system sitting over the UK is responsible for my head going ape-sh1t...maybe we are all barometers. In which case I'll see what I can get for myself on ebay. P.S. I cannot help but wonder whether, as the prevalence of various types of radio signals (mobiles, bluetooth etc) increases, whether there is a corresponding increase in CH sufferers... A long shot, I know, but has anyone investigated this?

Low barometric pressure can cause me to shadow heavily too - I'm usually sitting here begging for a storm to break! (Preferably over West Bridgford or east of that eh Michael?! ) As to the mobile phone masts etc - intriguing idea but my first thought was how do you explain the idea's behind using ONSI or DBS as potential treatments then? I'll admit electrickery isn't my strong point though - I hated Physics at school!

Yeah, bloody weather: cue Monty Python I looked at the possible involvement of CH and cell phones a while back and came to the conclusion that there was unlikely to be any correlation. It has been mooted that mobile telephony and related radio frequencies can cause 'normal' headaches for some people; but again, the evidence is somewhat scant and contradictory (often with hidden agendas). This was (IMO) a good study overall though; and don't you just love the term "nocebo effect"? Quote:Cephalalgia Volume 27 Issue 5 Page 447 - May 2007 Mobile phone headache: a double blind, sham-controlled provocation study G Oftedal11Faculty of Technology, Sør-Trøndelag University College (HiST), Gunnhild Oftedal, Sør-Trøndelag University College (HiST), Faculty of Technology, N-7007 Trondheim, Norway. Abstract The objective was to test whether exposure to radio frequency (RF) fields from mobile phones may cause head pain or discomfort and whether it may influence physiological variables in individuals attributing symptoms to mobile phones, but not to electromagnetic fields in general. Seventeen eligible individuals, who experienced these symptoms in an open provocation test, took part in a double-blind, randomized provocation study with cross-over design. Sixty-five pairs of sham and mobile phone RF exposures were conducted. The increase in pain or discomfort (visual analogue scales) in RF sessions was 10.1 and in sham sessions 12.6 (P = 0.30). Changes in heart rate or blood pressure were not related to the type of exposure (P: 0.30–0.8. The study gave no evidence that RF fields from mobile phones may cause head pain or discomfort or influence physiological variables. The most likely reason for the symptoms is a nocebo effect. |

The weathers not really caused any probs for me as far as the CH goes, but Debbie's been getting terrible migraines. Happy to look after her though, after all she does for me when i'm in cycle. Paul.
