Hi there, I have been a cluster headache sufferer for about 20 years. Every time I got them,(lasting 6- weeks, i've sworn to myself that I cant live through the pain. I've written the goodbye letter, called my family, ect,, I have been reading a tonne of stuff on this site, god bless you all, I would be dead if I didnt find people that understand the pain. you've givin me hope. Right now i'm on the prednisone taper thing,, I have been pain free for 3 days,, I dont know if its the steroids, or the red bull,, I've gotten hits, but have slamed back a red bull, with 10mgs of zyprexa. it has worked., never got over a 3 kip.. I dont know if its coinsidence, or i've stumbled onto somethig. I have been perscribed oxygen, but affording is gonna be a strugle.. I've also been perscribed lidocaine, after reading a ton of stuff on this great site, i've determined that it is not a viable option,, I'm sure when the devil comes back I might be begging for it. Not to go on and on about my problems, I just want to thank everyone here again. god bless.. Darren

Hey Darren - welcome from another Canadian. Margi (one of my favourite Canadians) will see your post and no doubt make contact with you - either here on the board or by PM. She lives in Calgary as well. She can steer you to the right places for 02 and no doubt give you the name of several good medical people to help you out. Glad to hear you've had some PF time - may it last forever. Carol

Welcome Darren, A couple here are familiar with zyprexa, the oxygen script is a big plus, hoping that can happen somehow for you. A Clustermasx with high flow, 10-15Lpm is most effective. The pred can help hold it short term, some suggestions may follow, I'm not familiar with using zyprexa. For any info, inquire anytime, here to help.

Welcome to the board, I'm glad to hear you're catching a bit of a break. A warning. When I use prednisone it blocks the headaches completely. If I just go off the prednisone without any other prevent I get slammed with multiple 10's. Please try and get the oxygen script before you go off the prednisone so you have something to fall back on. And any advice Margi gives you will be golden!!! Guiseppi

Darren, Folks like you make this site what it is, ...the dude that built this site just for clusterheads has your name. All we ask is that you row, meaning.....letting the folks know your story and saying a kind word to those that need it. Everyone needs too row! Welcome aboard, bro!

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

Darren, Hang in there, you can handle six short weeks no prob. For me I've concluded that FINDING a set of med's that work even somewhat is as good as the med's themsleves, because it puts you SOMEWHAT back in control. For me right now it's Verapamil as a preventative and Imitrex as an arrestor. Red Bull (alone) works on the shadows. Sleeping vertically helps lessen the frequency and severity of night time attacks at least to a point of being able to get some sleep at peek cycle (this is a sanity saver for me)

| This just proves how obstinate the beast is! For ME, sleeping vertical is a TRIGGER!!! Within 20 minutes, I wake up screaming! The BA$TARD!!! I hope you can find a way to get the oxygen paid for. It is one of the cheapest, most effective, safest abortive out there. Please try to find a way to get it! Chuck
