Meningitis
« on: May 10th, 2007, 6:11pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

A coworker asked me what was wrong the other day and I replied I had a headache. She responded with the typical assumption that I had migrains and I told her I was a CH'r.
She then excitedly exclaimed, "Oh, you have suicide headaches. My ex-husband had suicide headaches". Then she said something really interesting. She said her ex-husband also had meningitis when he was a kid. I had meningitis when I was a kid too.
Wondering if there is any correlation. Anybody else had meningitis and is now a CH'r?

Yes I had meningitus...there are two kinds...

bacterial that can be cleared up fairly easy with anti biotics if caught in time, and the viral which is difficult to treat and can be deadly.  I had viral, but I recovered in about a months time.  I was 13.

Come to think of it, (not related I'm sure) but that was the only time before my late teens I ever recall having had a headache.

I've never had that.  But I do believe there could be a viral connection (I even started a thread on here asking about chickenpox and mono).  I started getting my CH right after I got mono and it had supposedly cleared (but it hadn't cause I ended up with chronic mono).  I also had a head injury when I was a kid.
Meningitis is pretty rare, so it is interesting that you and your co-workers husband who both have CH also had meningitis.
I think there is a lot that they don't know yet about these headaches.

That's strange. I didn't have it but my father died with it. We all had to take medicine after he died.

It was about 8 years later that I came down with CH.

I had Hydrocephalus, i was diagnosed 4 years ago, so i had a surgical placement of a shunt system. When i was diagnosed about this, the doctor ask me if i had Meningitis whan i was a kid, the answer is no, I never really knew the cause of the Hydrocephalus, but i had some studies and everything seems ok. I´m CH (episodic) since 1999, the first cicle happens when i was in college. I ever wonder if this has something to do with this.

Had spinal meningitis at 9 months, was in a coma for a while with a temp over 105 for many days.  Wasn't supposed to make it.   Undecided

I never had meningitis, but my mother had viral meningitis when I was 9 and was hospitalized for 3 months.  She said the headaches caused by the meningitis were horrible.  She never had headaches before.

Yes, bacterial at age 12 almost died....

Viral at age 15, not as bad but no walk in the park....

Viral again at age 35, this was after the onset of Clusters and was freakin horrible.

Obviously I have brought this up many times with every Neuro I have seen since CH and they know Roll Eyes of no tie, but do think some of my other little health issues may be related to the meningitis.

 Best of luck......Tim
