When do your HA's peak?

When does everyone feel their HA's peak when in cycle? Middle, end. I seem to peak right at the end and then it tapers off quicker then when the cycle started. Going through a really really bad stretch right now. Hoping and praying it is the end of a cycle.

Hold it together there will be an easlier road ahead. Mine peak about 1 week into my cycle they stay the same for about 4 weeks of hell and then the last week they begin to ease up. I have a 6 week cycle. However this cycle I was left with some strong shadows for a bit. I'm not using any meds or O2 now but this cycle was just weird. Sami

I start out very slowly and the verapamil works great. It is towards the end where I get slammed and only the Imitrex will work. I hate to use it for two reasons. One, I feel crummy when I use it(better then the HA though) and two I take paxil for anxiety attacks and have to beware of serotonin syndrome. God this beast is kicking my tail this time!

Mine start out as shadows, my biggies come in the middle, then they fade back out again. At least that's how they used to go. I stay on my preventative until I've been ha free for 4 weeks then start to wean off. If I get hit I ramp back up again. So I guess it's possible my cycle ends a good three weeks before I quit my prevents. Hopefully you're one of those that peaks and then breaks. Wishing some pf time your way really soon. Guiseppi

HI, I get 3 months, the first are mild but the second it's plain hell by the third they start going mild and more spaced that is how I know they are going away..so the first month O2 and cafergot, second: zomig, maxalt or imitrex along with O2 and lots of prayers, third: cafergot and O2 again.

Mine ramp up in intensity and frequency fairly quickly. By the second week, they are at their worst. After a couple more weeks, they plateau, and gradually decrease in intensity and frequency until they fade away. The whole process takes about six to eight weeks. Quite a few people report that their cycles end with a bang, however, and not a whimper. Here's hoping you're one of them, and that your cycle is ending. Best, George

I am starting to wonder if I should throw a prednisone taper at the end. I used to do it at the beginning while starting verapamil. But I seem to never get fully off the verapamil so maybe I should switch the prednisone to the peak. Just thinking out loud. Sort of!

Hi Bird, Mine start slowly and start light with intensity and frequency, and build over about 4 to 8 weeks. Then i peak for about another 4 to 8 weeks, just until I feel like I cant hold on any longer. Then, after a blistering crescendo, they stop suddenly.

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

I guess I did make my question pretty vague. Johnny nailed it when he said that it describes a HA and not just the cycle. I never noticed (duh!) that my HA cycle and HA's are the same. They both start slowly and end with a bang, then poof, gone. My original question intended to mean when you are in cycle, when are your HA's the worst. For me it is always at the end. That is how I know it is drawing near. Gotta find that positive outlook!

Just got back from nuero and I have a 6 day prednisone taper. They called it a Medrol taper I believe. Hope it helps as right now I am every four hours. And the oxygen works for them all except the morning one which has required trex injection. Been tough keeping myself near the tanks as I am a baseball coach and always at either a practice or game. Hope the pred gets me through the weekend okay.

My cycles have all started with a bang. Wow! The first time this hit, I thought I was a goner. This time, it was like "here we go again" and revising plans for the next several months. My recall is that they peaked several weeks in, then tapered off a bit in intensity and duration. then stopped. I wish I had keep a better diary in the past, cause I'd like to have some idea of what's ahead. But cycles probably differ somewhat, too. Interesting, the shape of a cycle is sort of like the shape of a hit.
