The Imitrex-tip

Hi. CH for 20 years. Began a new cluster four weeks ago, worst ever with many attacks a day. Started using the Imitrex-tip some days ago. It really works great and it might be a coincidence, but it seems to me that I get even more attacks now, as if half the Imitrex-dose doesn't "last as long" as the full dosis. What do you think? Does anyone recognize that? Nils

Sometimes it seems that way to me also, but then again, during the worst parts of my cycle, even a full dose only lasts a couple hours, and then taking another shot is usuallly out of the question. Using less trex at a time gives you the option of another dose when you need one. Everyone is different, but you can try a full dose next attack, and see if it lasts longer. Sometimes it seems that nerve is going to flare up every two hrs no matter what is going on.j good luck chrisw

I always require 4mg shots. Less than that won't help and more than that hurts! I can't handle a full 6mg dose. Makes me feel like I'm on fire or sunburnt really bad ! I can't say that taking smaller amounts makes me have more hits. It's more like ... the more I take, the more I need ! UNsolved

For me what works will not work for others. I would take 1-100 mg pill @ bedtime along with 1 mg of Klonopin. During the day if I wasn't out I used the O2 many times a day but 2 different times I also had to use a nasal (so that was 2 doses in 24 hrs). My cycle came on Feb 24th and left April 7th. 6 weeks so I can't say that by using the imitrex like I did caused me to have any more hits or a cycle that last longer. This is the 3rd or 4th cycle of doing this due to not being able to fine a preventive that works. This is also the first year that I used O2 and it worked great so this will be what I reach for when I come out of remission. My last remission was almost 5 yrs. I'm hoping that it will repeat again if not I have the support from here to get me through another cycle. Sami

I agree, they don't last as long. And HA's come more frequently from the shots. Try the sprays. Takes a little longer to act but they last alot longer. 1-2 usually would keep me through the night and let me sleep.

My experiences is as follows: I quit using Imitrex injections (6mg) because it increased the attack frequency. Another effect was that attack that appear shortly after awakening tended to stay at KIP5-6 for the rest of the day. Then I finally decided to try the Imitrex Tip and spent only 2mg. That got rid of the side effects completely. The frequency decreased and the "power shadows" didn't occur any more.

Not too sure this would be recommended but just to add to the imitrex tip, I also save my used vials, when I am out of full ones and can't get anymore right away i can usually get a full needles worth by drainging the leftovers of about 6 vials. Comes in handy in a jam! Cheers! Chris

| I thought that I was the only one that did that... It is a sad state of reality that we are "reduced" to having to do this. If Glaxo had a clue, they would petition the FDA for Imitrex-CH, a 2 ml mini-dose that could conveniently be carried and administered. If it can be done with other drugs such as insulin, it should be possible with our little friend. And maybe then it could be acurrately prescribed for our condition - one different than the standard migraine the 6mg Stat-dose mechanism was designed for.

| Imitrex is not designed to "last long". It aborts 1 attack at a time.
