There's always something surprising about these damn headaches.  Spent about 10 years as an Autumnal episodic and now, once I've finally got on top of them, they've come back in the Spring.

Funny thing is they're subtly different - new times in the day, heat being more pronounced as a trigger. With just O2 they weren't too brutal at all to start with and pretty well spaced out. In fact rather than a heat pack/warm bath being comforting I'm now onto the frozen peas for relief.

Did want to try and get through without resorting to anything chemical at all, do lots of exercise etc,  but am rapidly rethinking that as a strategy !

Rethinking?  That IS the best strategy for some.  The beast has a harder time attacking when he has to chase.  Hope you have a painfree day!  Leah.

For me that's the most frustrating thing about this condition is it morphs so damned often. Just when I reach a point where I have a handle on it one of my meds becomes ineffective or the night time hits pop up.

I admire anyone who can push through without meds, I've tried but always run back to the meds again. Hoping it'll morph to a short cycle for you!

It's not that I'm anti-meds just the only thing that has worked for me in the past is the clusterbusters thing.

I might be way off the mark but the preventatives I've been prescribed didn't shorten my cycles or really tone down frequency of headaches.  By no means have I tried them all - and there are a few I really wouldn't want to.

Also having once had a rebound headache from Maxalt I swore I'd never go there again.

O2 and Red bull and/or damn fine coffee has kept a lid on it for the past couple of weeks and since it was a new cycle you always kind of hope it'll be a short one.

However seeing as I'm not too fond of nursing frozen peas I think I'll be putting an end to this particular experiment pretty damn soon!

That is one of the characteristics of the beast.  Just as soon as you have the beast's habits and times down pat, he f**ks with your mind, and changes.

I have had these for 28 years, and I can't tell you all the changes that have happened over the years.  My hits now, are NOTHING like what they were, back in the dark ages, when I started with them.

That is pretty damn right... the cycles change a lot..
I used to have them in the fall, then they changed to spring and once while in a tour trip in Europe I planned it during the fall because I had just had my cycle in the spring..they came back during my trip!! no meds, no O2 nothing to soothe the damn things...they came back at midnight Thanks God because I do not know what I had done if I get one in the middle of checking out the Sixtin Chapel!!! Getting hit in the Sistine Chapel would probably earn you a couple of years worth of Hail Mary's

Helen... It's always helpful to toss a shoe into the church before entering.
I do... and if it doesn't burst into flames... then it's safe to enter.

Never quite the same.

Daylight hits always very, very rare for me - but lately after  getting beaten to tears at night, I'm getting the snot kicked out of me during the day.

Applying heat used to make things worse, ice has been my best distraction for a few years but its now useless.  Heating tea and putting the hot mug against my eye, nose and upper jaw suddenly feels good.

My Neuro. doesn't take me seriously when I suggest someone should investigate potential viral connections.  It sure seems this nightmare mutates like a cold or flu virus.  Same base - with different symptoms and resistance to previoius treatments.

Hi Helen - you're absolutely right alts have been hitting the spot for the past couple of cycles along with O2, red bull and/or good strong coffee.

Last two were just 15 day cycles - down from 11 weeks so I'm not complaining at all. Have a feeling this one will be very done and dusted quite soon now having dosed.

Just a little pissed that it's decided to turn up in Spring, guess that's the price you pay for throwing smelly old shoes at priests.

On an aside does anyone know anything about 2 bromo lsd? It's an artificially synthesised molecule of lsd which has a bromide atom added which removes its hallucinogenic properties.  Reason being I think they're looking at clinical trials in Hannover, Germany.  Kind of they know it's safe to humans, know it's non-recreational but wonder if it's still a close enough match to sort cluster headaches out.

In order to make the 2 Bromo LSD, you have to first make LSD, which is a big no no.  Getting permission to do that (in this country, at least) takes an act of God and a Congressional  order, which may explain why the study is being done in Germany.
