R U trying to see Dr. Silberstein see this Dr.

Year ago when Dr. Steven Silberstein started out in Philadelphia he worked at Germantown hospital. He had a partner named Dr. Schluman who broke away and started seeing his own patients. This man from what I can remember was just as up to date with clusters as Dr. Silberstein. I just found him. I think for those that are trying to find a doctor in the Philadelphia area you could check him out. I know if my neuro doesn't work out this is my next try. I would have gone to him right away but I didn't know and I already started with Dr. Cohen. Click here: http://directory.photobooks.com/mlphysprac/PracData.asp?pict_id=2798120

If you are going to Michael Cohen, MD who is located in the GSB Building on City Line Ave. in Philly, I hope you find him as great as I have. He listens, takes as much time with you as you need, works with the patient and above all, he is compassionate. I have been a patient of his for quite a while now and was so relieved to find him after having gone thru many, many other neurologists.

That's who it is.... I'm so hoping he can help me. This is the first time that I'm seeing him. He did the nerve block but I don't think it worked since today I got a kip 10 that lasted 2 hrs. This was the worse one to date. Sami

Where's the GSB building? I live about 10 minutes from City Line - if that. Just curious...

Carrie, The GSB Building is not far from where the Adams Mark Hotel used to be. It's also near the local TV stations, WPVI, channel 3 news, Saks Fifth Avenue Store, etc. Cyn

Cindi, Your not too far away. Sak's is at 2 bala where my other neuro was. Dr. Rodger Farber. Has Dr. Cohen really helped you? He did the nerve blocks on wed but I don't think it worked I go back and see him in 3 weeks. How am I going to last that long. The girls in the office forgot to call in my script for the O2 so now I gotta wait until next week to see if my Insurance will pay for it. I emailed you. Sami

Sami, I went thru many neuros and out of desperation, I went to see Dr. Cohen. He was the only one who would actually listen to what I had to say and not just write me a script and push me out of the office. The only negative thing I have to say about his practice is about the office staff. They can be a bit irritating at times and neglectful so you have to be on your toes with them. Make sure they do what they are supposed to do such as faxing prescriptions, getting messages to Dr. Cohen, etc. Also, if you have to make an apppointment with the doc, try to get the first apppointment in the morning since he does tend to run late.

Hi Cindi, Yes I already don't like the front desk. I worked in the medical field for 15 yrs prior to having kids and I could never just forget to get a script to where it needed to be. I was really upset with the way they handled it. Now because of the weekend I won't know what's going on until next week. My appointment was at 10:10 am and he was running an hour behind. Not real bad. What has he done for you? What meds are you on? Has he been able to shorten your cycle? Has he been able to control them? Sami

After having CHs for almost 37 years, my cycles have become less frequent and less severe over the last two years. I try to stay as med free as I can and use only ice and O2. If the hits get too bad, I go on a Prednisone taper and Depakote but I try my best to fight it out without the meds.

Carrie, I would love to get some local CHers from Delaware, Pa, NJ, etc. together sometime soon. I am free on weekends so if we can think of a place that would be good for everyone, that would be cool. Let me know! Cyn

Cindi, I started cluster's at 17 and when they first started I would get them for 3-4 months of everyday hits that would come every year. That course followed for 10 yrs then my cycle went to every year lasting 6-8 weeks. That followed until I got pregnant with my second child. I started a cycle at 4 months pregnant and they lasted for a month no meds broke on there own but that is when my cycle started to skip years. The first skip was for 3 years but when that cycle came it was the worse cycle I every had taking me to 98 then 2002 and now 2007 so my cycles are giving me longer remissions yet my cycle is still lasting 6 weeks.with no set time as to when they will start Has yours shorten? I know you said that they lessend but is that cycles or lenght of time in your cycle. I too really don't want to take preventive meds due to not being able to find any that really worked. I just would like to find something that will abort them. And try to ride this out for another 4 weeks. Unless they come more then one a day then they either better knock me out or find something. Not to mention I can't seem to think clearly. I am taking Klonopin at night and I just added in Meletoin tonight. As for the thyroid I don't have graves my thyroid just doesn't seem to work right. I had 20 or the 22 symptoms and it was getting worse so they decided to start me on thyroid meds but straight T4 meds didn't work for me so now we are trying to find the right dose of Armour and we may need to add in T4. In this time we are weaning down on the cortef and hope that my adrenals will kick back into play. I'm sure that all of this is connected one way or another. My brain fog is too bad right now to try to find the link. Sami

The overall severity of pain has lessened but of course there are a few zingers thrown in the mix now and then just to remind me of how painful CHs can be. My cycle length has also gotten shorter. My last cycle was December 2005 and it lasted a few weeks. I have had a few stray CHs since 2005 but no cycle, thank goodness. I used to have good results with Maxalt but not any longer. I can't use Imitrex...got way too scared when I experienced chest tightness. If I hit the O2 and ice at the first sign of a hit, I can usually ride it out without meds which is what I prefer.

I am interested in a del. valley hookup, if you guys still are also. my name is christine, and to actually meet another female ch sufferer is something i never thought that i would be able to do. something happened this year to trigger alot of ch cycles for people to start at relatively the same time. my doc told me that she has never had so many peoples cycles all begin around the same time before. maybe it was the warm early winter. my cycle began all the way back in november. i nver had a cycle go on this long before, but it started off relatively mild. I can remember thinking "this isnt too bad" well I am sick of this by now, anyway, like I said I am very interested in a meeting wit you guys and anyone in the area. maybe we could start up a support greoup for ch"ers in our area or something. chrisw
