Memory Problems?!?!?

Hi . . . I've suffered with CH's for about 12 years now, and am currently on verapamil to prevent, imitrex to abort and O2 also as an abortive. For a six month stint, I was on Topamax, but I stopped that about a year ago (due to memory issues and "doped up" feeling). Anyway, I feel like my memory has just gone down the toilet over the past year. Do any of these drugs cause permanent memory loss/attention deficeit type problems? I started a part time job (which is hard enough when you end up dancing with the beast), but sometimes I just can't remember what someone told me. Maybe it's just old age (4, but do the drugs or clusters themselves affect memory? I feel like an idiot and want to cry. Deb

Hi Deb I think you’ll find that just about all of us suffer some form of short term memory loss during the cycle period; Id be working on something & go to the shed to get a tool & by the time I got there id forgotten what it was I wanted & even wonder why I was there, I had more unfinished projects laying around than I could point a stick at. I didn’t get my full memory back until I went onto the Magnesium & Taurine regime. Sticky notes are good & can be a real help. Your no idiot just a little head weary right now. Cheers Barry I should have mentioned that I dont take drugs to controll my CH. Cheers

Deb, Ditto to what Barry said about the memory loss, always blamed mine on the use of Imitrex. Bob

Hi Deb. My memory is very good and is a big part of my job but when in cycle as I am now I am more forgetful than usual. I find the Verapamil is to blame partly plus the lack of sleep because of my midnight attacks. After cycle is over my memory seems normal. Barry

Topomax is notorious for this but I have never heard of memory loss from Imitrex. Sometimes when one is getting hit hard, the lack of sleep that ensues could do cause this also.

Like Linda said it probably wasn't due to Imitrex but more likely a result of the CH attacks themselves. Plus I haven't used Imitrex for 2 years and still can't remember sh_t.

I had a fantastic memory before CH, since CH though, not so good. Particularly short term memory when in cycle as Barry mentioned. I honestly find it the scariest part of it I personally put it down to being unable to focus due to the pain rather than the drugs though (as I haven't really taken much myself).
