Here's a Riddle

I have been getting headaches several times a day now.  They occur when walking into the freezing cold, when stepping into a hot shower or stepping out.  At first I thought they were tension, but they are triggered only or at least almost entirely by these changes in temperature.  The headache is along my forehead and it hurts like hell.  It comes on suddenly in its full intensity, lasts about 10-15 minutes, having about 5 a day, had one walking from car to freezing cold to grocery store and had a bizarre grimace on my face and could hardly walk cause it hurt so bad.  I get cluster so I am not exaggerating--pain level fairly high.  At first I thought it was an isolated headache--now having at least 5 a day.  If anyone can figure out what kind it is I would love to know.  Never had it before, kinda sucks.  NOt in cluster cycle right now, so this is new and different.  Thanks. I am purely guessing here but it might be related to blood vessels spasms which can happen in extreme change of temperature ? Almost like a brain freeze type of things?  Huh

It ALMOST sounds like Trigeminal Neuralgia, but I think that would affect more than the forehead.

How's your sinuses?

Annette,

The headaches have that same kind of "feel" as an ice cream headache--they come in a "rush" and feel "gripping" like that except they are only in the forehead.

The thing that is weird about them is they come on "instantly", much like an ice cream headache and pain is of fairly high level.  When one hit me coming out of shower i actually found myself stunned and then pacing thinking of my freaking God this almost feels like a cluster coming on (something about it maybe that it hurt quite badly although not in same area and not as badly I can't explain).  Than it after a while it leaves just as "instantly".

Very strange.

They make me feel a little nauseaus from the pain actually.

B14,

Trigeminal neuralgia--I will have to google that out of curiosity, don't know too much about it.  Sinuses are OK, don't think it is a sinus headache, different crazy feeling.

Two other clues I can give are:  it feels almost like an electrical kind of feeling combined with a feeling that my forehead is being squeezed open in a vice.

B14,

I just googled trigeminal neuralgia and it feels a heck of a lot like what they are describing.  I am going to read a little more.  Thank you.  Star

Hmmmmm....It says trigeminal neuralgia only one side of face....this is both sides.  Weird.  Oh the joys of being quirky and riddled with headaches!

I went to church with a woman about 8 years ago who suffered from Trigeminal Neuralgia. We shared what we each went through with our headaches.. and hers affected the whole front and left side of her face (right 'side' barely affected, primarily left). The wind blowing on her face would trigger a bad spell. I saw her a few months ago working at the local library and she had some surgery that fixed it. Not sure what it was, but had it been gamma knife or something like that I would most likely remember. It was something I hadn't heard of at the time, but she suffered many years before relief.
I hope that isn't what you have, but you should get yourself checked out by your doc to rule out anything else and determine the cause.

Peace,
Carl D
