Help Pls : Terrible pain when i shake my head

for the last 8 days i get a bad pain if i move my head suddenly.

if i only move head normally there is no pain.

pain is on the left and right side and only on top of head.

i have had cat scan and that showed nothing.

i have seen 4 doctors and they all have no idea, they say it not sinus, not from tightness in neck.

any thoughts much appreciated.

I have a similar problem right now: when I turn suddenly, I get terrible vertigo and pains shoot through me.

However, I can't help you, because I can't help myself. I find the only way to prevent myself from accidentally moving my head is to sit in couches/chairs that are at the back of a room. And warn people that you can't move suddenly.

Wish I could help more.

David,
I notice that this is your first post on here, sorry that you are not well at the moment.  Have you looked at the Quiz for CH, its under 4th button down to the left of the board.  Try taking the quiz and see what answers you come up with, what other symptons do you get?  Tell us all you can about whats going on, some one might know better than me, there is an oz doctor on  here.  I personally would say that shaking of the head during CH does not cause and increase in the pain levels, most CH'ers can't keep still during bad attacks.  Have a good read round, hang on in there, I am sure some one will be along who can help you .

I'm no doc, but if you see a neurologist or headache specialist, you may want to discuss the possibility of primary exertional headache.  As with other short-lasting headaches, indomethacin works well for the majority of sufferers.

All the best with it, but please also get them to exclude subarachoid haemorrage and arterial dissection.

Hi David

Barry from up north “Karratha“, what you are experiencing doesn’t sound like CH but is similar to the after effects I get from Exploding Head Syndrome.
I’d suggest you get back to your Dr and ask for a referral to this bloke, he’s my Nuro & experienced with CH & other head disorders.
Dr Sasson Gubbay
34 Churchill Avenue Subiaco 6008
Ph  08  9381 7555
He’s also Professor of neurology at one of the Uni’s in Perth
He will most probably send you for an MRI for the simple sake of ruling out anything untoward.

Give us a bit more of a run down on what you have been experiencing, we aren’t doctors but may be able to help you out in the interim & as JeffB says “Don't shake your head”, we all may be hurting here but one of the things the beast cant take away is our sense of humour

Cheers
Barry

thanks all for ur concern and thoughts they are greatly appreciated.

to tell you more i have seen 3 gp's.
the first said just leave it and it will go away.
the second was abit more concerned and sent me for a cat scan which i stated before came back with nothing.
the third said see a neurologist and if gets worse go down to emergancy.

i went down to hospital and after the usual 7 hr wait a dr told me sounds like a CH and i should try to drink coffee.

i am booked in to see a neurologist next week so hopefully he will give me some answers.

the think that i dont understand is that i only get pain with sudden head movement, if i dont move my head there is no pain. i havent been able to find anything/anyone on the net with the same syptoms.

regards
