Pain Scale? KIP?

O.k. I know I'm gonna get a few smart a$$ responses for this because it is a dumb question (for most here). I am not familiar with the PAIN SCALE, KIP, or the K then a number I'm assuming between 1 and 10.

I have searched on here for the info. but my computer only allows 25 results per page. Can someone explain that to me or is there a link for it?

Also, What in general is shadowing? Maybe it feels different for some or some describe it differently, or maybe there is a specifice definition for it here somewhere?

Also, I thought somewhere along the road here, I read about a document or form one could use to keep track of one's daily episodes? Does one exist? If so, how do I get ahold of it?

Thanks for any info. on these subjects.   Huh

Button #5 from the top on the left is the kip scale...

Easiest way to describe shadowing is it's like someone has their foot on the gas petal of the beast mobile, reving it up, but the gear is still in park.

The headache diary will be along shortly.

Look on the left side of your screen for the links. Click the 'the kip scale'. It was invented by Mr. Bob Kipple years ago to describe the pain levels for clusterheads.
Shadows are low level (on the kip scale) attacks. They are that feeling that something is about to happen and you'd better get up and moving to the whatever-your-abort-routine is.
Welcome to the board. Sorry you had a reason to come looking.

Doctors, nurses, whatever always ask you your scale on a number 1 to 10 but a lot of people will say that clusters are really hard to give a number to because the pain is so bad...without the kip scale I think I would give all hits from an Kip 8 up a regular 10 because they all somehow feel like the worse pain in my life...a 9 and 10 just somehow feel like an even worse worse pain in my life!  Its like the pain of a cluster is so bad that we need our own scale and this guy made it...I'm forever grateful for it because I'm really really bad at just giving a number to my pain so when there is more description to it it is really helpful so I'm a lot better at giving a number, which means my doctors are a lot better at helping me.

Tis not a dumb question....if you don't know the answer.

Shadows are described a bit differently by each of us, I think.  A shadow for me...is like a Kip1.   Just a lingering low level pain that goes nowhere.

Hot tea works well for me for shadows.

I keep my diary on my pc...I use my Word program, save it after each entry, and add to it as needed.

Lots of luck to you,

Jean

I don't know what i'm doing wrong? I have found ( I believe the two spots on the screen, but my cursor or arrow (I don't know the technical term, but my computor mouse controls it) does nothing when I put it over the area. It usually turns into a hand. I'm not the best at the computer, but what am I doing wrong?

Thanks so much.

For quite some time, people have been posting numbers to describe the amount of pain that their headaches cause them.  There was no real "guideline" so that we were all on the same page....  until now.

Our friend Mr. Bob Kipple was up late with the demon late one night and put the pain that we had been speaking of into what has affectionately been named The Kip Scale.  I think you'll agree that what he's written down is right on the money.

Thanks for letting me put it up here Kip!Pain level 0
No pain, life is beautiful

Pain level 1
Very minor, shadow's come and go. Life is still beautiful

Pain level 2
More persitent shadow's

Pain level 3
Shadow's are getting constant but can deal with it

Pain level 4
Starting to get bad, want to be left alone

Pain level 5
Still not a "pacer" but need space

Pain level 6
Wake up grumbling, curse a bit, but can get back to sleep with out "dancing"

Pain level 7
Wake up, sleep not an option, take the beast for a walk and finally fall into bed exhausted

Pain level 8
Time to scream, yell, curse, head bang, rock, whatever work's

Pain level 9
The "Why me?" syndorme starts to set in

Pain level 10
Major pain, screaming, head banging, ER trip. Depressed. Suicidal.

I didn't understand the scale until my first 'why me?' attack.  Those two words put it all in perspective.

OB1,

I think you are getting answers to the Kip scale info so I won't comment on that....  But, on your question about using the computer to connect to the links that were of interest to you, I offer the following simple instruction:

For your information there are lots of links on the computer on this site and others that can be connnected to by putting your cursor arrow over the link.  When you see the "hand" you have to click the mouse to activate the link and make the connection.  Just putting the mouse over the link won't do it. The "hand" is just supposed to alert you to the fact that this spot is a link if you want to click on it. Click your mouse button at the same time you see the hand.  If this still does not make the connection, then you have some other problem that is interfering with making the connection. You will have to troubleshoot that as a separate issue. Normally, you are supposed to connect with a simple click of the mouse.  Give that a try ....

I use the Firefox browser and there is no 'hand' appearing when I roll my mouse over a link...

Perhaps that is the problem... the links change colour and are definitely clickable...

Good luck  Grin
