Question From a Newbie

I'm new to the site so I have not read every post but what I have covered I do not see causes like mine and curious if others have the same as me. I do have episodes triggered by certain smells, such as diesel fumes, certain perfumes, livestock (such as circus animals) Heck it even seems like the wind causes them at times. Anyone else? Just curious. Thanks P.B.

Hi P.B. Well, haven't heard the circus animal one but the others are classic triggers for some. Welding fumes do it to me also. As for the wind, not as strange as it seems. My guess is that the wind is related to a barometric change, which is another classic. Keep reading, try the search function. Lots of info here you could not find consolidated ANYWHERE else. Welcome aboard, wish it was under different circumstances. Regards Jon

When I'm in cycle the Santa Ana Winds, (we call them the devil winds) will set me off. Otherwise I'm fortunate in that my only triggers are alcohol, stress and sleep deprivation. As you read on you'll find this condition has more variables then you can imagine. Welcome to the board I hope you find something that helps. Guiseppi

You are new here so I will warn you that your "circus animals" comment may cause some people here to capitolize on this with bursts of laughter and comments of their own. They do this a lot and seem to have a lot of fun at it...pay no attention, it really IS all in fun. BUT....yes. certain smells like turpentine, citronella, diesel, acetone and others can be, and are a trigger for CH.

| A little trick that works for me because mine fall right in the middle of the Holiday season as well. In cycle, if I know I have a party to attend or some event where drinking may be required (hehe), I'll have a beer just before I depart. 99% of the time this will awaken the beast at which time I jump right on the O2. This will end the attack in a fair percentage of cases and I'm good to go for an evening of merriment. Additional drinking for whatever reason oes not seem ot generate additional attacks. Also, on occasion (rarely) I have taken a pre-emptive Relpax which will also do the trick. Too bad this doesn't work for the bigguns in the middle of the night.

My husband got a bad CH hit in the shopping center once just by walking past one of those perfumed candles shop where the smell was really strong. I also avoid using strong perfume around him while in cycle , although it doesnt trigger a hit it annoy him. Annette

Mostly the same as above...most flowers, bleach, barometric changes. Sleep deprivation I hate the worst because I want to go to bed but I know that when I go to sleep the devil will wake up and the fight is on and we are back and forth and back and forth. I don't know about circus animals, but the clowns are scary.

yes I too have to watch being around strong chemicals, perfumes, and most paints that are not water based. I worked over 20 years selling automotive parts and equipment and when I sold as a salesman it was really hard going to places that painted and repaired cars and trucks they all thought something bad happened to me cause I always looked like I was crying. and I have noticed in the last few years that the barometric changes really do a # on me too. I've never seen whining here. Vent if you need to, we've all done it. I was here 5 minutes after the first headache of my second cycle ended.
