Having been "successfully" treated for acute sinusitis in October, I can report that it had no effect whatsoever on CH. Except that the antibiotics made me vomit, adding a new and exciting dimension to the beast. That's doesn't mean your sinuses are fine. I can only speak for myself. I have chronic sinus problems. But I have only had 4 cluster cycles in my 39 years, so they can't be too much of a trigger or at least not a common one. Do check it out though. Maybe this is what's making it so bad for you this time. I wouldn't chuck any of our cluster stuff out the window while you're pursuing this line, though.

Hi Dave, Few points to ponder: 1- Is the neurologist specialising in headaches? Is the neurologist treating many CH ? If not -> get a 2nd opinion from one who does. 2- How did the neurologist arrive at the conclusion? Is there abnormality seen on your Xrays, Ct scan, MRI ... ? Were the films reviewed by ENT spec to confirm whatever the abnormality was could have anything to do with your CH? 3- Do you have a history of sinus problem ? If yes did you have it before/after/during CH ? It looks like something you need to look into and check out but dont bet all your money on it as the only/simple cause/trigger for your CH. Best to get it looked at properly by someone with the experience of headaches and particularly CH. Best of luck and painfree wishes to you. Annette

Its entirely possible that a sinus problem could trigger attacks. Treat the sinus problem and see what happens. Have you been seeing the same neuro for 8 years?

I do believe that can do it. Treat the sinus and see.

| How? Eight years with the same neuro there must have been meds prescribed. Is she currently prescribing?

Point I'm trying to make here is if the neuro has been treating you properly for 8 years then her advice is probably sound regarding getting the sinuses fixed before she tries other CH treatments..

I have had lived with headaches for over fourty years, the drs have never been able to put me in a box and tell me what causes them because they are never consistant. However the last few years I must say my sinus's have been setting off my head aches. I sleep on two pillows to keep my head above my heart so my sinus will drain and I take a sinus pill before going to sleep. Interestly if I do not and my head falls off the pillow I will end up with a migrane or an major eye headache for a day or two on the side of the head where my head fell off the pillow. So I do think that Sinuses can be a trigger to kick off ch. Frank

Most of us have some sinus problems. and they can make them worse (or be a trigger at times). Try some Melatonin at night (12mg). It will mix with about anything and your neuro will probably agree (mine did). O2 is an abortative as well as Red Bull if you get to it on the start. Hope your sinuses clear up soon.

I know it sounds crazy, but a friend of my gf had a sinus infection that got bad enough that it triggered ch's ... after he found out I was having them, he told her to be very nice to me when I was in a cycle! Anyway, he didn't treat it and it got so bad that it infected his spinal fluid and eventually caused Meningitis. Is that nutz or what! My ENT has wanted to do sinus surgery for a few years but until this I disregarded it ... I'm going to have it checked into. Even if it doesn't fix the ch's, who needs the extra grief of sinus headaches? Battling the ch beast is bad enough!!!

Hi, I've had chronic sinusitis since I was about 14-15 and clusters for not even a year (I'm 21). I've had three cluster cycles and we think that they are coming shortly after sinus infections....I have an impacted sinus over my left eye and I am a episodic lefty with the clusters so maybe they are agrevating each other...we even thought maybe the antibiotics were doing something. I am going ahead with sinus surgery (this new thing called balloon sinuplasty, VERY cool and minimally invasive) in just 2 weeks. We figured at the very least that it will get rid of the sinus pain above my eye that I have had since I was 15ish and stop the sinus infections. Anything extra...less aggrevation with clusters, helping asthma, helping allergies, etc, will be bonus. Knowing that going into it is what's improtant because I don't want to disappoint myself. I think that when you are in cycle your CT scan will show your sinuses even worse too. They did one and in addition to my always impacted sinus it showed some more inflammation and opacification in ducts and other sinus cavities. um hope this helps some, just sharing my experince with sinuses and clusters although as you can see I've had a longer battle with sinuses than clusters, cluster battle is just beginning! Onset of my Autumnal episodic CH is always precluded by poor sinuses but whether that's a symptom of CH or a trigger is the question. Suspect with the regularity of my attacks it's more of a symptom, since sinus infection every year plus or minus a few days has to be long odds. In fact sinusitis was the diagnosis I lived with for quite a few years so had the rhinoplasty and, I believe, the linings of the particularly infected left hand side sinus also came out in surgery. Unfortunately it did bugger all for CH the next year and the next year and the next year... Suspect blowing up a tiny balloon in a sinus cavity would have a similarly spectacular result. ps anything more than a finger up your nose is not minimally invasive!
