Losing my hair?

Ever since my neuro bumped my dose of verapamil up to 720 a day, I have noticed that I am losing A LOT MORE hair everyday. I have lost enough hair that it feels thinner. Has this happened to anyone else? I have been growing my hair out for the last year to donate to Locks of Love, but I may have to keep it for myself! Bridget

Never happened to me. Jonny has been on Verapamil and before he cut his hair recently it was down to his butt. I'd look for another reason.

I know that some of the meds clusterheads do will make you lose hair. Didn't know that Verapamil was one of them though. UNsolved

Its more likely to be hormone related or stress. I dont have CH yet I am losing heaps of hair just from the stress of it all. Half my mane has gone down the drain ... ( Hey that rhymes ... ) Off to go find some laughter medicine to destress ... If things get worse, you may wish to discuss it with your doc specially if you develop bald spots ( alopecia areata ) as it may mean other conditions are involved. Lack of vitamins and iron may contribute to hair loss. Good luck and painfree wishes. Annette

Thanks all! I can always blame stress, there's always plenty of that around here. I have a feeling that I will have to trim an inch or two of it off before I start causing plumbing problems! Bridget

I'm losing my hair, but not from the meds... it's from rubbing my head raw 5 times a night during the cycle.... I start with a sink of cold clear water and then it looks like I got a haircut by the time I head back to bed... However, I would gladly shave all my hair off if it meant I would never have another attack... Jcline871

And growing fast, two weeks and I need a hair cut. My barber freaked out. She said didnt I just cut your hair. I am not on any meds for cluster but am for Diabetic and High BP. Skilly

I have been on Verapimil for years, It is not associated with hair loss. I am work in the medical field, so take it from me...your thinning hair would have happened even without the Verapimil. Having said that, I suggest you seek advice from a doctor about alopecia (hair loss) if your thinning hair really bugs you. One word of caution: Rogaine is known to lower blood pressure, so ask a doctor if you are taking Verapimil AND Rogaine.

Well, I will be seeing a rheumatologist in two weeks for further follow up. I went for my 30 year old physical last month and mentioned this pain in my bones that I had developed. She wanted to talk to the neuro at that point to see if the neuro thought that any of the cluster cocktail might be causing it which they determined not to be the cause. So, when I went back for the follow up, I brought up the hair loss. She wants me to mention that to the rheumatologist as she thinks that it is probably related. So, big hugs to you all! Now I better go get a hair cut this weekend... Bridget

I took Verapamil everyday for 14 years and never had a hair problem. I stopped taking it about a year and a half ago, six months ago I noticed that my hair was getting thin so I cut it all off. (Im at the age to start thinning, I guess) Eight weeks ago I noticed a bald spot on the side of my head, it seems that I have Alopecia areata I have a friend that is in the last stage, he is void of hair anywhere on his body. If I show up at the next convention bald, I will KILL the first one that laughs and I mean that! Its going to be tough going from this to bald

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

Trust me Jonny, I will be the last one to say a word about it. Maybe we can wear matching CH.com dewrags or something! I went today and had two inches cut off so that maybe the piles of hair in the shower don't look quite so big. Bridget
