Just got home from the ER

Evening all, I just got home from work today after another hellish night (3 last night Kips 6,8, 10) The last one had me thanking my wife and kids in the early am for being here in the house or else I would of probabbly gone after that beast with my handy dandy letter opener. It was my last day on the Verapamil they had me tapering off so they could get a accurate reading on my EKG, Had pvc's every other beat still with a couple of doubles; Kind of scarry when you feel your heart doing flips inside you. All in all after a long day with work and then the entire afternoon and evening in the ER (at least I work in a hospital) the Docs let me go home, gave me off untill Monday and told me to take it easy. Yeah easy for them to say since they are able to sleep. They asked if I had been under alot of stress lately I said yeah only for like the last 3 months with these damm CH's. no sleep and still trying to maintain the hospital cafeteria, our assisted livings kitchen, our senior living kitchen and the catering side jobs from the hospital as well. Now lets go home to my wife who loves to tell me about how shes had a baby every time I get a CH, my 5 year old and twin 4 year olds Yeah I should have lots of time to relax, thats when I fall asleep and am awaken by the beast. I thought this cycle was ending and now there back full force I am guessing from the tapering of medications, But thats it Im done with preventatives that dont work have tried Inderal, Verapamil, Dapokate, Topamax, etc. I am thinking hard core about stopping all the docs and just sticking with O2, coffee and water. Since I go to a doc for a headache and end up leaving with heart problems. The side effects are not worth it if you ask me but to each their own, been asking alot of people to keep a eye out for some shrooms, (been about 15 years at college since I tried anything like those) but have been interested in what I have been reading. I also have been in contact with Dr. Sewell from Harvard Medical about being involved with this study. Would love to hear anyones thoughts or views on any of the above mentioned ventings. Thanks and man I hope I get some sleep tonight Brian

There is no way to know how the beast will react to any action, but for me I can say getting off the meds was a big help. The only thing I do now is take melatonin at night and keep the oxygen nearby. What ever you decide, I wish you pain free days ahead!

| Can't help with the 'shroom thing. I don't bust. But if you'd like to discuss going off meds, feel free to PM me any time. I've been off meds since the mid-seventies, and I haven't regretted it. There are others who feel the same way. I don't advocate either way--it's a very personal decision--but I'm convinced that it was the best decision for me. Best wishes, George

Hey Brian, Sorry to hear about the troubles but, I'm glad you are here for a good case of support. Different things sometimes help different people in different ways. Verapamil is not helping you but for me it appears that it is helping me chase the monster away ,at least for this cycle. The main thing is not to let him beat you. Do what you gotta do to kick the monster in his a**. You know that here you will get the unrequitted support that we all need. PFDAN Bill

Brian, Sorry to hear about the hits. How long do your cycles normally run? Extended cycles are tending to happen with a few others including me. Can't blame ya for wanting to just throw up your hands and stop the meds. If ya try the clusterbusters, let us know how things progress or regress. Hope you can still have a Happy Thanksgiving! Carl

Thanks everyone, Carl my cycles usually run 2 a year but this year I am on battle 4 and they all lasted longer than usual. I put a post up called change in 2006 and it seems that alot of us are off this year. On a side note first night in quite awhile with no beast not sure if it was me sleeping upright or what but I will try it again thats for sure. Thanks to everyone for their support Brian

Brian, Sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time of it at present, I am thinking of you and sending vibes to get some PF time soon. I am with you on the Meds thing, I am gradually beginning to think the fewer the better, I don't know about busting, but wish you luck. Cheers Roy

Tell your wife that I've had 3 kids myself and these headaches are 50x worse than any childbearing pain, and I should know having suffered both! Good luck with the end of your bout!
