Here comes that throbbing....

Hi all,

I'm new to the boards and new to cluster headaches, I'll post my intro in the other forum when I beat the beast back into submission again....but right now I need a distraction because the left side is starting to throb and my eye is getting that feeling again.

Already drank a couple cups of coffee and had ice on my neck for about 10 mins.  Just got Imitrex the other day (50 mg pills), but the wife is out shopping with her mom and I don't want to take my first dose without anyone home in case there are side-effects (I take medications for a congenital heart valve problem).  My cardiologist said Imitrex is fine with my other meds, but I rather play it safe the first time.

At least I'm lucky and the dogs are keeping somewhat quiet.  Running low on coffee, better get a re-fill.

Back in a few,
Pers

  Pers,

You've got it right with the caffeine and cold pack, but hon...Imitrex Tablets take wayyyyyy too long to take effect and so you're better off withoput them.  If your heart problem is o.k. wuith taking Trex...please ask you Dr. for either the Nasel spray or the Injections.  You can abort a headache in 5 to 15 mins. with those.  Tablets take over an hour to work and not very good at that.

Also ask him for a prescription for oxygen.

   E-tank.
Regulator that goes to 15 lpm
   Non-rebreather mask.

No side-effects, cheap compared to Imitrex and it works to abort Clusters in 75% of us.

Along with the caffeine try one of the energy drinks like Red Bull too.  It has Taurine in it and works with the caffeine for a far greater effect.

Welcome to you.

You're not alone Persala. I'm in the middle of a episodal cycle but mine have been kicking in at 3am and I'm sitting here quite upset (at midnight in UK) at the thought that in a few hours when my family are all asleep, I'll be trotting down the stairs muttering 'Here we go again'. Last night I had a humdinger of a CH that was so painful it scared me.

However, this forum helps in so many ways. You learn so much and get a knowledge of the multiple things that can help or hinder you. Most important though with something as uncommon as CH is the knowledge that there's other people out there with the same problem. It really does help to know that!
