Red Bull - Sugar Free okay?

I am a newbie to this site (have posted in Getting to Know Ya) and have really learned a lot from the posts thus far - my boyfriend thinks I'm addicted to the site... I think I may be too! One tip I'd never heard of before is chugging a can of Red Bull to abort an oncoming CH. I had tried black coffee before which sort of helped. Anyway, the question - has anyone experimented with original Red Bull vs. Sugar Free Red Bull? Sorry if this is a silly question but I figure if anyone knows the answer it will be you all - and if not, I can find out for myself the next time =). I try to stick to zero-cal drinks (usually only water or coffee) but really thought the RB helped and would love to know if I can get away with the Sugar Free kind! Many thx Meg

For some, artificial sweeteners can be a trigger. Sometimes I'll get a regular headache from aspertame (Nutrasweet). Other than that, all the other ingredients are the same in the same quantities. Good luck!

I only drink diet stuff anyway, so that's the redbull I used. Works great.

Hi Meg, Redbull is wonderful stuff. Drink it as cold as you can get it. That seems to help me as much as the drink itself. Be aware of your food intolerances in relation to headache. brewcrew is right, and aspartame IS a trigger for me. Regards Jon

Hi Meg, Warm welcome! I have tried lots of energy drinks and they all work - as long as they have the same amount of caffeine and taurine. What comes to Red Bull, the original is my fave because it tastes a lot better than the sugarfree one, but the effect is just the same. (Personally I drink it ice cold with ice, but that differs person to person). So pick your fave and good luck!!! BTW, if you're addicted to ch.com... look around. You're not the only one! Best wishes & PF days, Sanna

Interesting... When I was in England, Mike Pollock and Helen both told me that they'd tried all the brands of Red Bull and its equivalents. They said that the generics were comparable to the actual Red Bull (and I have to admit that all the generics I have tried worked just as well), but that the sugar free did not seem to work as well. I'm glad people here have reported that they have had success with the sugar free types! I don't use that because the aspartame in those drinks definitely is a trigger for me - not for clusters, but will send my migraine for a loop - and I certainly don't need to make one worse while the other is getting better! So I stick to the regular. But for those who are diabetic or who can't have sugar for some reason or are on a diet...well....I'm glad to hear the sugar free works just as well! PF Wishes! Carrie
