I use Frova for my migraines, which oddly enough have almost completely stopped since the CH has started up, and I really do like it.  Now, for the CH it's a completely different story.  Frova is not a quick acting triptan, so it doesn't do anything for the CH I'm having at that moment; however, I have noticed that when I take one Frova I do not have any more CH's for the next 24-28 hours.  So, that's kinda nice.

I used to take Frova.

It worked pretty good for me.   Instead of a 1 1/2 hour CH, it was down to about 20 minutes.

Not everyone has luck with it, but that's pretty normal for CH.   Seems things never quite work the same for all.

I was getting hit every 2 hours like a clock.  I took imitrex for hit.  Then my dr had me try frova.  He said its one pill that will protect you from getting any ha with in 24 hours.  lol  every two hours right on schedule I got hit and I couldn't take anything withit or for it because I had already taken the frova.  Never again will I touch that stuff.

This is my problem. Ive got some Frova but haven't tried it yet due to the fact that if it dosen't work I can't use my Imigran jabs if I get hit.

Maybe I should just give it a go, 24 hours pain free sounds like heaven although 24 hours with ch's & not being able to take anything sounds like hell..... oh what to do  Huh

It takes a very tiny amount of a triptan to get me through the night.  I have been using my amerge sparingly, just 1/4 or 1/5 of a pill will make it a PF night.  Works so well that I tried to go without last night, hoping maybe these things were on the way out.  I was wrong, got hit, but was able to kill it in a timely manner.  Had a nastly after headache, but another 5mg melatonin pill got me to sleep, and it was gone when I woke.  I'm grateful I can at least have some semblance of control of these things.

HOLY SHIT DUDE!
What is weird is... I get migraines but very very infrequently. It was the CH driving me mad. New Years Eve last year I got hit with a whopper migraine. I started getting migraines about a month later then the CH stopped. I told my sis in law just the other day that, she remembers me getting alot of migraines while out of CH cycle, but since the Ch started back up in July I have only had a couple of really bad migraines. I switched to the Frova since it was working great for it, and when I went into cycle again, kept using it. Ran out of tabs last week, and started back on Imitrex. This past week was pure living hell. The worst I've seen since going into cycle.

Coincidence? Maybe not. Frova gooood, Emmy-trecks baaaaad!

You might want to talk to your doc before trying this, but I take a 2.5 mg Frova tab (5mg is full dose, 2.5 a half) and chew it up and let it sit under my tongue for awhile. Nasty as hell, but it does help it kick into the bloodstream and pull it away quicker than just swallowing the tab.

Peace,
Carl

I have used frova as a preventative with a lot of success. It does take up to two hours to kick in so take it at a PF time of day (or prepare to just use o2 to abort) and it will give up to 26 hours of pain free time.
I found if I used it for more than 3 days in a row it would bite back though but used 2-3 times a week and then a break for a couple of days and it can be very effective. If nothing else it has guaranteed a nights sleep or a day without hits for me
Another one for the arsenal if not for your daily weapon of choice. I do know of one sufferer here in the UK who used it daily for 7 weeks with no kick backs and no problems so it just goes to show we're all different!

I've found the longer-lasting triptans do a wonderful job if you get your CH's on a specific schedule.  Amerge was great for sleep.  I've fallen in love with Zomig NS for being able to either kill an oncoming headache, or I can take it before bed and get a night's sleep.

Im really tempted to try the Frova. Iv'e got some right here & just keep looking at it.

Prob is I don't use O2 to abort, I use Sumatriptan, so if the Frova don't work I cannot imagine not being able to have a jab in the leg with my trustee Imigran jab especially if we're talking kip 6 & above  Undecided

Talking of mixing Triptans does anybody do it or done it within say 12 hours & is still here to tell the tale?????

I once had a maxalt to abort, that then gave me 11 hours PF time, I then had an Imigran jab & am still here to tell the tale  Cheesy

Its dangerous to mix vasoconstrictors such as triptans as their effects can be compounded when used together or even close together. Triptans constrict ALL blood vessels, not just those in the brain. Constricting those in the heart too much and you risk a heart attack that may or may not be fatal.

Although in most young healthy people who have good blood pressure and a strong heart doing it once or twice may not cause any obvious side effects, no one can guarantee that the next time you do it your heart wont give out.

There have been cases of young people dropped dead from a massive heart attack caused by mixing triptans so in general the answer is BETTER NOT TAKE THE RISK.

One or even several CH hits without anything to abort will not kill you but mixing triptans even once can.

Hope that helps and painfree wishes to you.

i tried using frova as a prevent worked quite well for a while but like helen ssaid it does tend to bite back after longer use
yes i did use trex a couple of times during that time and am alive to tell the tale but i dont advise it to ANYONE!!!
i also found that dissolving the frova under the tongue slowly gave the best and longest lasting relief(tastes like crap though)

I couldn't get Frova down here, it seems to be a brand new drug. I'll have to wait to give it a try.

Is there a reason why you can't try a nasal spray form or the injectable trex?

No just follow the docs instructions.
NEVER MIX TRIPANS.....Any questions? It will send you to the ER or even kill you. Been there!
The best would be have the 02 on standby and try the frova.
Char: The drug companys move a molecule around in the production of triptans. This is basically the same drug with a slightly different molecular structure to get around Glaxo's patent. This also makes them contraindicate each other.
all the best
