I almost always get them at night and rarely vomit. I would say I vomit maybe once or twice an entire 4-6 week cycle. Today I had one at work and vomitted twice. Basically, is vomitting rare for clusters and why is it so infrequent that it happens. Also, it seems I vomitt right at the end of a cluster and within minutes after vomitting, it is gone.

It is rare and is not considered an "indication" for clusters. But, you will find that there are many who at peak pain levels do get sick. It's rare for me but there have been a few times when I was rocking so violently and so tightened up with pain that I did vomit. When that happens I sometimes get a blood vessel burst in my eyeball also.

I get nausea sometimes when the pain racks past an 8 or 9. I think it's just cuz it hurts so much. It's rare that I'll actually throw up, usually the nausea subsides as the pain ratchets down. Good luck! Guiseppi

I vomit sometimes too, though I usually attribute it to the intractible migraines I get or the drugs I am on. Sticking to non-acidic foods and lots of water when the pain levels are lower seems to help. There's an over the counter anti-nausea syrup meant for children that helps too, as well as black licorice candy. It has to say REAL LICORICE or on the bag, that nasty anise or fake stuff tastes bad and doesn't help. This is an expensive candy that may say "gourmet" on the label as the imitations are much cheaper. Ginger ale helps not only with nausea, the ginger may also reduce CH symptoms (I've noticed when I drink lots of diet ginger ale my attacks don't seem to spike as high on the KIP scale). I also have been known to skip a meal in turn for 1/8 box of saltine crackers. I'm not sure if saltines help, but they don't make it worse when you're hungry but afraid to eat for fear of nausea. They also make jello pre-prepared in little 1-serving packages (like a pudding cup, ideal for a lunchbox). When you don't feel well enough to make it or don't want to committ to eating a whole box of one flavor (that gets old fast) those little one-serving things are great.

I get nauseaus (sp) with migraines, but not Clusters. If my pain level gets over a Kip 8, I take ergotomine and phenergan (anti-nauseau med). Hugs BD

I've vomitted 2 or 3 times in my entire history of ch (24 years of episodic cycles). However, My stomach does get an upset feeling once or twice each each cycle.

Could it sometimes be the meds that make you naueaus? Especially the nasal sprays when they drain.

It's definately not "stomach related" when I vomit during an bad attack. It always seems to be when I am in agony and trying hard to remain "normal" amongst other people and the concentration gets too much for my brain to handle. I reckon maybe my head thinks I've been poisoned and tries a last ditch effort to expel it. After vomiting the pain does not go away, but I do feel slightly better for it. Maybe reduces from a 10 to an 8 and I am able to think about trying to relax from the panic. I remember once being at a seminar and had no meds with me. It was very early on in my cycle and this was the first really big hit. I tried to drive home to get my imigran injection and had to stop the car and just managed to get out to vomit in the road. A few minutes late I was able to get home and take the inj. 10 minutes later I was right as rain but very tired and slept the rest of the day.

In general, I'm not nauseated during CHattacks. I've had two episodes, however, where nausea WOULD kick in during the attacks. Boy, this made CH fun! Instead of just hitting the floor on my knees, or pace, I'd have to pray before the porcelain throne... and beg to be put out of my misery. I'm glad that it's RARE!

Jobette mentioned the nasal sprays, they ALWAYS made me ralph and didn't help much with the pain. The injectable version was a much better choice for me. Guiseppi

I've had cycles at peak that every attack was accompanied by vomitting for up to an hour into a two hour hit. I have had extreme times when only stomach acid was coming up, then woke up with my face on the toilet seat. (glad it was mine.) One cycle I lost 30lbs. in a month. It seemed everytime I ate, BOOM CH and there went dinner. I have always thought it is a knee jerk type reaction to such horrible pain. It doesn't help my pain at all. My last two cycles this hasn't happened. Skyhawk5

I have thrown up as well with some of the bad hits ,but after reading I think throwing up my be due to the nose spray imitrex . it does taste like .... well real bad tasting . And like a few have said my pain lvl. did go down afterwards but that could have just been the meds kicking in too ?

I'm in the 4th week of a cycle (and I don't know how long this one is going to last), and during that time, I've had 5 or 6 hits that have been bad enough to make me vomit (I had one last night that was a doozie). Once in a while, after vomiting and drinking water, the pain starts to subside very quickly. I have no idea why it is, I'm just thankful that the beast goes away for a spell.

I get nauseous at the peak of a 9 or 10. Never actually puke but I do hang over the toilet for a minute or two. Usually means I'm past the halfway point. A mixed blessing there.

In all fairness to SI - he started this post in mid August before you guys sent him packing (altough I don't think he's really got the message yet) I thought this post had died a natural death but it was resurrected a month later by artscribe. Its probably quite good question for newbies but has been posted to death numerous times on the board before. Some get sick, many don't. John
