A bit of advice needed please

Hi everyone,

My Dad is a chronic sufferer and Ive been doing a bit of research tonight. This may be very old hat but I have noticed in threads of 2002 that a lot of sufferer's were trying shrooms. Did anything  ever get tested, are people still using it???

Cheers

Hi Kas.

shrooms are an ongoing option for Cluster headaches.

Many folks have tried them with success. All the tests to date have been done non clinically by sufferers of CH.

Also from the original shroom treatments other similar natural treatments with LSA containing seeds and plants have come out. Again some treatment success has been had.

Unfortunately I dont know the failure rates though.

Have a look here  http://www.clusterbusters.com/index.html
this is the premier source of information on the subject.

Hi Kaz

Welcome to the board & thanks for being a supporter for your Dad, we need the support from our families to get through this little dance we do.

I cant help with the shrooms as I don’t have any experience with them, I use oxygen & Red Bull as abortives and am currently running with a Taurine & Magnesium supplement for reducing the intensity of the hits.

Let us know what your Dad is using by the way of meds / oxygen Etc and we may be able to help, we aren’t doctors but between us we have a load of experience.

Has Dad been diagnosed with CH by a neurologist, has he had an MRI, these things are important in knowing for certain what he is dealing with.

I know Mt Isa is a long way from the big smoke & dad will have to travel to see the Nuro, I live in Karratha Western Australia so I understand the tyranny of travel to get the needed help.

Pass on my regards to your Dad
Kind Regards
Barry

I personally don't know anything about srooms, but I would not want to be tripping while having a CH. My fear is and has been of taking something where I was not in control that may allow me to do something to myself that may be harmful. That's one reason that I do not like to take antidepressants for the fear that they will let me hurt myself. Plus who wants to hallucanate. The headache is enough in itself. Sometimes I may even be hallucinating fron the pain of it all. I know that I do believe in the Imitrex monster, I should have thought him up myself.  GrinAnd what are the side affects of these srooms. Please know that I AM NOT knocking anyone, I'm just saying who wants to hallucinate?

Miss Melissa,
There is a HUGE difference between Busting and tripping. In fact, if you did some looking around at the Clusterbusters site, I think you'd find plenty who are benefitting from far more than a temporary high.
I see it a far different way, in fact. CH causes soo mych abject pain, it is WORTH it to check into alternative treatments.

Wishing you PFDAN,
Cathi

Please know that I don't mean to offend, It could be that I do not understand the drug, I guess I am stuck in the past, because to me these are some hard drugs. Yes it does scare me because I don't know what I am going to have to be subjected to as I go through this cluster ordeal. It DOES bother ME to be out of control when you are out of control. I have been dealing with these things for a LONG time and with every new cycle I feel like a virgin. I am trying to help myself here too, but sometimes it may be worth a wait for someone to ask for themselves before we suggest something that MAY be considered drastic. Looking for a safer better way of dealing with this demon is what brought me to this site.  I am tired of the side affects. And I guess I will be researching this and other sites until I am free or not.

Yours is a healthy point of view.
Everyone should have a similar view and become knowledgable on all their treatments and side affects wether it be shrooms, seeds, narcotics, kudzu or the old standards like immitrex, lithium, verapomil, topomax, sansert, etc...

Allways best to research and be aware with eyes wide open.

If you are tripping while on the schroom treatment then you used way to much.
Please read the www.clusterbusters.com  site. I think you'll find that it stresses the point of how little to use.
Good luck with your research.

Yes Jobette
You are not supposed to hallucinate. Then you have taken too much. It is medicinal doses that are indicated. I am a newbie to LSA and used it for the first time of my life. You have to understand that I am a straight arrow, a believer in Jesus I never smoked a cigarrette, joint or took an illegal drug in my life. If anyone would have told me I would be using a form of LSD in my fifties I would have thought them totally insane. But pain has a way of talking to you. I have also said I would use liquid drano if I thought that would work.

Having said all of the above I would like for you to know that my first "trip" was just fine like having a drink or two. No voices, no paranoia, no seeing things but headache gone for now.

Trust me I have had more trips with morphine (paranoia) pain meds stoned out of my head, topamax (psychotic reaction, tried to throw myself out the window) a nightmare with perfectly legal substances all perscribed.

Being that we are all very different, we never know how we are going to react to a med or substance, even natural. That is why I have said it and say it again, we deserve to make educated decisions based on knowlege from our doctors, and boards like this with people who have been there, literature etc and fully accept responsibility for our decisions whether they turn out good or bad.

I have worked in hospitals for 30 years and have seen enough deaths from OTC drugs never mind the illegal shit.

Thank you Rickyshot, It is sometimes because of the unknown that we do not get or seek help because of fear and that is what is happening with me. I am afraid of what this is doing to me and yes I have in the past put way too much trust in drs, only to find that they like me are grasping at straws because they don't know or care to try to find the answers. But I do thank God for you all because I am learning more from you all free than I have from them in years and I have to PAY them. We have to just keep seeking, and I do believe that my day will come to be pain free, it always does, sometimes it just takes a while. Cry
