i had my appendix out a while back and got a bout of clusters after the general anasthetic after being pf for ages.
i now have to have some stuff done to my teeth and am worried that the local anasthetic will also bring out a bout of clusters  Huh has anyone had an experience with this, or am i safe because i cant put the dentist off much longer, but will suffer with bad teeth rather than a month of the beastie knawing away..... Kiss

I had 5 suregeries and had no problem with the anastesia.  However my 6th surgery wow big difference!  I woke up with a cluster and started getting hit several times a day.  It lasted about 3 months then stoped as quickly as it started.  So I would make sure the surgeon and your dr and the nurses know that you have ch and what works for you to abort and ask them to have an order written up for you just in case you need it.

catherinelane,

Last time at dentist and while in cycle, Xylocaine with EPI was administered twice on different visits and triggered attacks within 5 - 10 minutes. Complained to dentist and was administered Citanest (Prilocaine) without EPI during subsequent visits and this anesthetic did not trigger attacks. I was still in cycle when given the Citanest.

I don't know if the Xylocaine would have affected my CH had I not been in cycle at the time or would have caused me to go into cycle..

So this was my experience and I hope this info helps.

Good luck,

Bob

I had to have some teeth pulled last year and I don't know what kind of anesthetic the dentist used (he knew that I had chronic CH), but for several hours after the work was done I had no CH pain-the entire left side of my head was numb-it was a wonderful experience!  Unfortunately, when the anesthetic wore off, the CH pain was back, though no worse than it usually is.  While the anesthetic was working, I had a VERY difficult time drinking anything as I couldn't feel my lips, mouth, etc.-really could have used a bib!

I have had a lot of dental work.  It hasn't triggered anything for me but I really force myself to relax for the needle.  It is all in the bad area, and I do dread it but I like to keep as many teeth as possible so I go.

The thing I hated recently - I went to the eye dr when I found out I was going to the neurologist - to be ready.  The eye dr was great, but gave the the eye dilation instead of the air puff for glaucoma, and having the light examine the optic nerve while dilated was awaful.  Don't do that one.
