ESCITALOPRAM

Dear all,

I have been taking escitalopram pills to prevent disthymia for almost three years now and since then I haven´t suffered from any cluster attack. I am not saying that eveyone should take this medicine at all, but is something that should be studied for sure.

I can´t believe I had to throw my Imitrex injections away because they were expired!!!!!!

Hope it helps.

FDA Warning

Hello Nicolas,

thank you for this information.

You can be lucky twice: painfree and still alive!

Please see this FDA warning:

http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/advisory/SSRI_SS200607.htm

Quote: "A life-threatening condition called serotonin syndrome may occur when triptans are used together with a SSRI or a SNRI."

Lexapro (escitalopram) is a SSRI listed in this warning.

So one Imitrex (sumatriptan) shot during taking the Lexapro could have killed you?

Take care and painfree times forever!

Friedrich

Seratonin syndrome is real. when I started my current cycle I was taking celexa (a SSRI). I used triptan nose spray and Axert tablets. Neither I nor my Dr was aware of the Problem. After using my second Axert I developed alternating cold chills and pouring sweat. shaking till I could hardly walk, confusion, etc. I just thought  It was side effect from my meds untill I came on the link on this site about Seratonnin syndrome. I immediatly stopped my Celexa and the symptons went away. When My Dr returned to town I went to see him and showed him my research on SS. Apparently it is possiple that Seratonin syndrom could be fatal but not very likely (thats not really very comforting). The treatment consists of stopping one of the drugs and waiting for the symptons to clear up in a couple of days. Quickly stopping some of the stronger antidepressents though can be a problem in it self and must be managed by your Dr.

Again this site was the source for the best info available. What a great resource. Thanks again to all who make it possible

But many peaple here know imitrex does treat cluster headache, myself included. I know that everything you read is not accurate but if you read enough the truth will come through.

I think that was just what the FDA knew in 1992 - "Date this drug approved 12/1992". In July 2006 they only added the warning about contraindication with a SSRI or a SNRI. I also think this statement refers to tablets, rather than nasal spray or injections.

Just give them a call to update their information?

I am so sorry, I forgot to mention it.
Yes, I was aware of the posibility of the seratonin syndrome (because of reading the Lexapro leaflet, not because of my doctor) and I knew I could not take Imigran while under Lexapro.
The thing is that luckily I never had to because the pain was gone. That´s why I think there must be a connection between Lexapro and the cluster remission.
Just wanted to share my personal experience.

Good Luck!!!!
