pain of imigran ??

Hi peeps , i am new to the marvellous imigran (or imitrex as cousins accross the atlantic call it  Wink )

i have only had it 4 times ever as since i was diagnosed a few weeks ago the verapamil seem to be doing the job.

However - every time i use it - after about 30 seconds i get a strange "rush" up my legs and then my shoulders and the back of my neck tingle and kind of burn. i get a tight feeling accross my chest at the same time.

this feeling lasts for about 3 minutes and then just dissapears.

It aborts the ch every time but i was wondering if this is normal ??

If not then what side effects do you get ?
thanks
chop

Imitrex/gran is not recommended for people with heart problems. Not saying you ahve them, but you should talk to your doc.

yeah  Smiley i had ecg's twice a week when they were increasing my verapamil.

They were normal except for an increased voltage in my heart beat for some reason.
Doc wasnt concerned.

Am i the only one to get this feeling ??  Undecided

Yeah.. I'll go along with that!  Wink
You shouldn't inject above the waist your thigh is the best place otherwise you are going to intensify those feelings. They aren't pleasant but they are common/normal.. some people look forward to them as it means the PF time is on it's way. They're caused by your veins constricting so it's no wonder it mays you feel a little queer

Wink  Kiss
you know I wasn't going to miss a chance to take the mickey now don't you?!
I'm glad you're a bit happier, BUT... you should always discuss anything that makes you uneasy with your doc, just because others have it doesn't make it "okay".
Lots of people haven't known they had a heart problem until different drugs exacerbate it so please, please, please don't ever be complacent about stuff like that okay?
We don't like losing anyone round here!

Hey, I used the imitrex shots without any positive effects.  As I understand on how they work, they open the vessel which is why they work so well with migranes.  With clusters,  that would mean that would make the headache worse.  I used oxygen to "bring'  the vessels back from being expanded, or so I thought.  Before surgery, it was my only way of blocking the attack.  Any thoughts?

Wrong way around Kev!
triptans AND o2 are both vaso constrictors, they REDUCE the size of your blood vessels. In both migraine and CH the pain is generated by your blood vessels expaning and crushing all around them. In a migrain they expand by up to 2 x normal size and in a CH up to 20 x normal size.
What we need to do is get them back to normal ASAP hence constriction, triptans, o2, red bull, caffeine - all things we try but sadly, not all work for everyone.
I'm glad O2 does work for you.
