in the throes of a CH? Like a cat scan or MRI? Something that shows the activity of the brain? Just curious what the results were, if any.

But of course! The hypothalamus goes haywire. A regular CAT scan doesn't work, and it takes a special form of MRI or PET scan. Quote:Lancet Neurol. 2004 Nov;3(11):645-51. Click here to read Functional neuroimaging of headaches. Sanchez del Rio M, Alvarez Linera J. Department of Neurology, Hospital Ruber Internacional, Madrid, Spain. msanchezdelrio@ruberinternacional.es <msanchezdelrio@ruberinternacional.es> Functional neuroimaging, mainly PET and functional MRI, is the main tool that allows the capturing of neurovascular events during a headache attack. In migraine, functional imaging has clarified the underlying pathophysiology of the visual aura, whereas in migraine without aura, brainstem findings suggest a dysfunctional pain system. In cluster headache, the activation and morphological changes seen in a region posterior and inferior to the hypothalamus has provided a useful therapeutic target using deep-brain stimulation. We will discuss the main neuroimaging findings pertaining to the pathophysiology of these two common headache disorders, migraine and cluster headache. |

Yep. I know one or two people who helped contribute to this study; very bravely by being induced by nitro http://www.ouch-us.org/chgeneral/hypothalamus/hypothalamus2.htm Research in this respect has seemed to slow down a bit though recently, although Prof. Goadsby is actively seeking brains, if anyone is interested (following demise of course)? -Lee

My local neuro is also a sleep specialist. He had me do a sleep study to see if I had sleep apnea. As soon as I stepped foot into the place ... I had a major attack. I went straight into the bathroom and gave myself a 'jab'. I finally hooked up to all the wires after the attack. If only the attack would've happened 30 minutes later, it may have been interesting to see if there were changes. Too bad. No doctors have ever asked me if they could induce an attack. UNsolved
