I know how to get effective treatment

Find a doctor who suffers from the same affliction. No wonder my primary has been SO helpful. I called friday morning and talked to a nurse at his office pleading my CH case and by that evening I had an o2 tank in my bedroom and an appointment for preventive measures. (I got verapomil and injectables) As he showed me how to use the Imitrex injectables he said, "Just so you know it burns like a mother... believe me, I know, I've used it many times." AHHHH, it all makes sense now. I've called from out of town to get a migraine drug refill and now the CH calls and within 30 minutes I have the necessary tools to fight what I need to fight. Same story when I was first diagnosed. The first general practicioner said you have vascular headaches, reduce stress. EVERY headache is vascular unless its tension or a tumor. THANKS for that. The next one I went to got headaches and had a family history of them, so she went to all kind of headache clinics and seminars. My old neurologist was the most dismissive and uncaring of any dr so far. Can you imagine?! My primary dr yesterday said, "Yeah, find a dr with headaches, they are the only ones who care." No truer words were ever spoken. (At least in my case anyway) Marcella

Sounds like a great stroke of luck, I'm happy for you: ) It must be a nice feeling knowing that your doc really understands your condition.. unfortunately, what the odds of finding a doc with CH.. : / pfw from NY

Congrats on getting so lucky. I got the next best thing about 20 years ago, a neuro whose brother in law suffered from clusters. You're blessed to have stumbled onto this guy, hang on to him with both hands!!! Guiseppi

More and more I think that if I can only get my headaches under control enough to study, I may go back & be a doctor. Or maybe some sort of neuro research. I got diagnosed from an ER doc that also has CH. I wish, oh I wish, that he was someone with a private practice instead of someone I would get by stroke of luck in the ER. He understood like no one else. Others sympathize, but he got it.

My neuro has migraines and keeps up on headache treatments. He tells me he's glad he has migraines and not what I have. He's great. For a few years he had another doc in with him who had CH. This doc visited me in the hospital a couple of times and he was SERIOUS about CH. But the odds of finding a doc with CH are slim. Hugs BD
