Decades between cycle "groups"

Not sure if this is unusual or of any interest, but my history began in the mid 1980s when I had a relatively mild cycle that went undiagnosed.  No problem until about 1997-2000 when every fall I had moderate to bad cycles.  Then no problem until last month when it started again.   Hopefully this will pass and I can wait until 2016 before I have another one!

I know someone that had an experience like that as well. It happens......but not often.

I suspect that people that do fall in that category are also less likely to be diagnosed, and less likely to hang out here.

So here's the question:

Were you doing anything differently during those different time periods when you were having headaches and when you weren't?

Eating habits?  Health habits?  Geography?  Weather?

Best I've done is a two and a half year break.......not that I'm whining mind you, I haven't gone chronic yet! Wishing you another 10 year remission.

Personally I am a bit jealous, but I hope this cycle is an easy one for ya and you are blessed with another 10 years of remission.

To Dave:  One thing I did do post 2000 when I had no relapses was regular exercise, and in fact, my regime had significantly slipped recently.  Coupled with a very stressful last six months, I suspect these changes may have triggered the latest cycle.  Problem now is that the Verapamil and the general crappy feeling from this cycle discourages me from exercising.  Anybody else see a positive effect from exercise?

To the other posters, thanks for the encouragement.  What a nice bunch of people here!

krtman,

Positive benefits from exercise?

YOU BETTER F&%KING BELIEVE IT!  I can go on and on about it.

For some clusterheads, exercise is both an abortive and a prophylactic.     Though exercise apparently does not work for everyone, it DOES help very, very much for some.  Perhaps you are one of the luck ones.

Exercise is part of my cluster defense regimen.  I once even made an entire cycle go away just by getting into shape without the help of Verapamil.

One theory is that getting regular workouts is like having an extra supply of O2 attached to you all day.

Bottom line is, if you have noticed a possible link to exercise, and I have noticed a link to exercise, and others have noticed a link to exercise, there is probably something to it.  I'd strongly recommend trying to get back into the swing of it!

Also, try this:

Go to your left and click on "medical info" and read under the section called "Ameliorative Factors."  You will read:

Vigorous physical exertion at the earliest sign of an attack can, in some patients, be remarkably effective in ameliorating or even aborting an attack (Atkinson, 1977; Ekbom and Lindahl, 1970).

Heavy vigorous exercise like weight lifting combined with deep breathing can also be a strong abortive like O2.  I see an effect in 5-10 minutes.

Before I discovered oxygen I'd put on the shoes and shorts and run hard at the first sign of an attack. It would abort about half of them. It sure is a lot easier to fire off an e-tank now though!
