burning sentations

hello i am new here, well i am not sure if i sufer from cluster headaches or not, i call them headaches but i know they are not.I have been suffering since i was like 4 years old now i am 23 ....well fro the past 9 months i have been getting these burning sharp sentations in ONLY in one location in my head, i mean when i get headches it hurts everywhere but these sentations are horible.When i press it with my fingers in that spot it hurts, it feels like a rubber ban is snaping in my head  and it lasts from seconds to mints to hours.I take advil and ofcourse it dosent work.Theres also times where i dont have headaches at all and the burning sentation is still there, i am soooo scared i think i have a brain tumor i really beleive i do.Does anyone else gets these burniong sentations?

Sometimes, medications such as an Imitrex injection can cause a 'burning' sensation or 'sunburnt' feelings. This usually means that you are taking too much of the med and you need to cut down the dose. . It may be 'squeezing' your heart. Imitrex is a powerful vasoconstrictor.
Other than that, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone else describing burning sensations along with their headaches.
If you haven't already, you need to see a doctor to rule out other, potentially serious problems.

Hello M'Light, sorry to hear you're hurting. I'm not a doctor and can't make a diagnoses but here's my opinion.
It does not sound like cluster headaches to me.
Have you been to a doctor about the pains?

It doesn't sound like clusters to me either but like Bob said, we're not docs here.
Where's the burning sensation?
Do they wake you up at night?
If you lay down does it help?
From a scale from 1 - 10, ten being the worst pain known to man, how would you describe your pain?
How often do you get these headaches?
Are they more than once a day/week/month?
When you get these headaches do you feel any pain or discomfort anywhere else?
Hope you find relief ML, we'll try to help steer you in the right direction if we can.

I would describe the pain behind my eye as a burning sensation when my pupil contracts. It makes me want to take my eyeball out with a spoon and replace it with an ice cube =).
Also I get really a high fever for 10 minute spurts when it's bad. That I use cold cloths for, helps alot.
So I guess that could be what you're experiencing. Its most important what area you're feeling the pain. Everyone will have a different type and level of pain, but it's the region associated with the illness that defines it best.

Peter - 3 months since first attack, ongoing cycle. Pred. under 20mg sets it off. Starting Kudzu, Taurine and Melatonin while coming off pred. Praying it works.

I hope you've seen a neurologist and had all the tests done. I would recommend to anyone that any severe headache accompanied by sudden high fever be checked out ASAP !

Hi Moonlight, what you're describing doesn't sound like CH's. There are several things that could be and it is very important you get checked out with those symptoms. Good luck and post as soon as you've found out something, o.k.

Charlotte asked me to sound in on your problem since it sound like what I have been through. I was diagnosed incorrectly about three years ago with Clusters then again this year. I got to the point where I could not handle the lack of response from my neurologist and went to a headache specialist. The specialist in about ten minutes told me I did not have Clusters but something called SUNCT it is even more rare then Clusters unfortunately but what he said was that none of the medication used to treat Clusters would work with SUNCT and that is exactly what I had experienced so far.
So this is what he said where the main differences between Clusters and SUNCT:
Clusters hit mainly at night SUNCT is normally in the day
Cluster Hits typically last 45 minutes or longer of severe pain SUNCT is more in the seconds to a few minutes.
They are both typically one sided and around the eye SUNCT tends to have ice pick like pain in the eye and burning. SUNCT also has a constant headache that only changes in severity so you are in pain almost the entire time during the cycle and it runs in cycle just like Clusters. The scary part is that it can be caused by a brain tumor but most of the time it is just like Clusters and they have no idea why it happens. My new doctor ran my through MRI’s and all kinds of blood work and I am glad to say there was nothing bad in any of the test. If this is what you have then getting properly diagnosed is the key since there are no meds that work on both types of headaches. There is a good chance your doctor has never even heard of SUNCT so I would do a little research on your own so you can take it with you.
