Maybe someone out there can help me! about 2 years ago I started getting daily eye headaches, the pain was horrible, I suffered for 1 year, went to my dr and he increased my dose of paxil cr and the headaches went away that same day...Well they had a recall on paxil cr and I went on the regular paxil...Got sick with the flu 4 weeks ago and the headaches came back...The dr tried to put me back on the paxil cr but I had a bad reaction to it. So here I am trying to get some anwsers and a possible soultion! I have to go and get a ct scan done. Ive been reading alot about these headaches and it seems they might be cluster headaches, I only get them when im sleeping and usually around the same time, always in my right eye. I am 26 yrs old, female, smoker, non-drinker. Anyone got any advice??? Thanks a ton!!!

Hi. Sorry you're having a bad time. None of us can diagnose you, but a good neurologist (preferably a headache specialist) can. I suggest you start to keep a headache diary. Start tracking everything, time of day, duration, intensity, etc. Read all that you can here, and at the OUCH site (link on left). Knowledge is your best weapon, and you are your own best advocate. pain free wishes, nani

It sounds like you maybe have clusters. Take the quiz on your left. It will go a long way to confirming whether or not you do. If it looks like you do, then print out the information on treatments and take it to your doctor. Very few doctors know much about these things so it will be up to you to do the research. Most of it has been done for you, you can download the info from the links on the left. If the doctor agrees it's clusters, demand oxygen. It is a great abortive for many, for me it stops the damned thing in its tracks 80% of the time. Again, read the link on the left on how to use it cuz used incorrectly it's worthless. Try and find a preventative that works for you. I use lithium, you'll see on the meds page there are plenty of options. Read the medication survey and you can even get a percentage readout on how effective different meds have been. As I said earlier, unless you're one of the real lucky ones your doctor won't know much about these things. It's up to you to learn as much as you can, educate him and help yourself. we will always be here for you. Guiseppi

First, You are not alone. Second, you are not crazy or going there. Some of the symptoms sound like clusters, but like Nani said, we are not doctors. There is more experience here when it comes to Clusters than most anyplace on earth. Look for a neuro that is a headache specialist, again like Nani stated. If you are indeed a CLuster Head, as we refer to ourselves, then, welcome to the family. IF you run into doctors that don't have a clue about CH, don't be surprised, as we run into that all the time. Suggestion. Write down all your symptoms, keep a log of the times and dates that the pain appears and disappears. Think back to the date this first started, and how often and how long the cycle lasted. Finally read read read. There is tons of info here, and if you are not a CHead, you are still welcome here. Remember, you are NOT ALONE Dragn

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!!!! I am 99% sure that what I have is Cluster headaches...had them about 2yrs ago daily for 1 year until the DR up-ed my paxil...that didnt work this time The thing that is strange this time is that for the 1st few weeks the eye headaches would come like clockwork...every night while I was sleeping usually around 3-5am, then for a week they came at 11pm-1am now they are comming at 8am-930am. I am in my 4th week of the cycle and the pain is maybe a 4...so I know they arent nearly as bad as they were when they started...it was a 7 then. As soon as I get my health insurance back I have to go and get a CT scan done and Im going back to my DR to see what he seems to think this is. I menonited cluster headaches to him before and he agreed with me...he wants me to get the CT scan done 1st I guess. I just wish this would stop! But I am grateful that Im not in pain all day and that they only happen 1 time a day!!!

At least there is some good news here. I too had to do the CT scan thing. Glad to hear the doc agrees with you on this. Rare circumstance, that is. My cycles have been messed up the last month or so too. Mine are usually more frequent than what you stated, but they were like clockwork. I always knew the time. Now they come and go when they please. Like Jonny said to me, the monster lives by it's own rules, and often changes the rules for no reason. Be well Dragn

jlsvirgo79, sorry your having a hard time with these headaches. Hope you have better nights and days but in the mean time, listen to what these felloe clusterheads are saying. I would also look at the information on Melatonin. You might want to think about picking up some and giving it a try untill you can get to a doctor and find out what's going on, that is, if it's really a cluster headache. I would also recommend a good one a day vitamin. It probly couldn't hurt. If nothing else it might give you strenth to fight off the beast when he attacks. that and a good strong cup of coffee. Any way, here's to pieceful nights and rstful sleeps...

| Couple of comments here. From personal experience, I cannot take a multivitamin without risking a cycle start. have no idea what particular ingredient (or combination) is the cause (and it could be an allergic reaction). Nani is absolutely right, keep a headache diary, and I would include (besides the specifics of the headache) weather, season, diet (including supplements like a multi vitamin), emotional state, etc. It's a lot of work but can be so, so beneficial to narrow down the factors that are particular to you, cuz we're all the same AND we are all different. Oddly enough, 24 years ago (before I knew what CH was, or had a Dr who did) I found "The National Headache Foundation" and their diagnostic tool for determining what type of headache you had. One of the traits they said was common to cluster headache patients was a near obsessive need to create a headache diary. They advised Dr's to look specifically for this in diagnosing. (I had been doing it before I even heard of it.) My other comment is to advise researching the archives on the use of caffeine in its various forms. Again, for me, taken at the right time and in the right strength it is very effective in aborting or decreasing length of attack. Taken at the wrong time or too much and it becomes a trigger. regards Jon
