Shadows 5 wks after cycle?
« on: Apr 4th, 2006, 6:57pm »

My 10 week episodic cycle ended about 5 weeks ago.
The last couple days my shadows have been really stabbing and intense. I don't recall this happening so long after in other years. Anybody? I feel like I am being driven insane from the pain and anxiety. How do other people treat them, what can be done?

thanks

Karrie

Hi Karrie,

Were you on Verapamil or some other type of preventative?  My last 2 cycles, when I tried to wean off my prevents too quickly, the shadows came back with a vengence.  If that's the case, restart or up your dose again (with your doctor's approval, of course).  Otherwise, it just might be your body's way of telling you that your cycle simply isn't over yet.

I've found that each of my cycles changes in different ways.  Seems the beast just can't be counted on to be consistent!

Hugs,

Hey Karrie, this cycle is different for me also. In the past, they left just as quickly as they came. This has been my longest cycle, about 3 months, I was sure I was done and today got a hit. freaked me out. However, this is the first time I used verapamil enough to do any good. So I've been confused if the meds were keeping it away or if I was done.

This really sucks. I have to remind myself of what I've read here and if I'm PF, be grateful today.

That may not be true. When my last cycle ended, I continued to get shadows for 3 months off and on but never had a hit. The true test for me is to drink a couple of beers. Shadows or not, if I'm in cycle and drink a beer, i'll get hit.

The beast makes the rules, you just have to learn how to play along....it can be done!

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

I agree with your test, that's how I am sure the cycle is over. But I disagree on the shadowing. My take is that a shadow is a hit, though a low Kip-level one that we can deal with. But it's still a headache. That's why I believe that if I'm shadowing, the cycle is not yet over.
