Anyone ever try this?

This has worked for me before, but its use is limited to the circumstance.

Lately my attacks are coming later in the early morning, 5 am not 2 or 3 am. Today I felt it coming on and I simply got up and it aborted it. I didn't go back to bed as when I did it in the past the headache then comes.

Today I've had shadows all day, one strong enough to thinkthe start of the headache was coming on, but when I took my verapamil it went away.

Anyone esle simple get up when they feel shadows and have it abort a CH attack.

It is actually being awake and vertical, I've tried sleeping sitting straight up, so it isn;t just body position but actually being awake.

Why would this work sometimes and not others?

I don't think it helps me, but I do jump out of bed at a run.

Many times I've gotten up and started moving around to abort the attack. Sometimes works with some accupressure to the back of the neck.

I have found that moving around at the very first sign of an attack seems to sometimes abort it.  Being asleep doesn't typicall lend itself to this technique because it seems attacks are too far along to abort this way.

So -  I'm with Charlotte on this one - jump out of bed and run.

I think being mentally alert may be one of the best deterrents of CH.

However I get hit in cycles standing up, laying down, sleeping, walking, sitting, talking, laughing, standing on my head or doing anything else a human can do.
Regardless CH comes.

I have had a couple neuros tell me to try exercising hard at first sign of a cluster but I dont get any real warning.  I get hit within seconds and it ramps up usually in about a min.  I have tried it but shit when I am getting hammered I am banging my head jumping around almost and it never does seem to help.  I have a pnching bad outside that I have tried and I can only go so long before I just cant take it.

I hope that it works more often for you in the future.

Yep this sometimes works for me... it is what I think of as my 'rat in a maze' moments.  Tongue   Move about frantically doing housework, gardening, something!

Doesn't work everytime but its well worth a try!

Whenever I get up  when I feel shadows, usually  4  or  5  am,  if I lay  back down it will definitely  come  on full force.  If I stay  up,  it will abort  but than it will start coming  later  in the morning.  This is bad because  when it does this  around  9  or 10 am,  I am on the  job  or in the  street.  Sometimes  I rather  just have  it  at  5am  if it's  coming anyway.

In the middle of my cycle  even between headaches,  I can't lay down for  weeks  until the  cycle  ends.  I have to sleep in an upright  position--- it's   crazy!

Mikey,

I;ve tried sleeping sitting up and it didn;t work. I am glad it does work for you though.

There is so much about this disorder that doesn't make sense, or works for some and not others - it is just f-in crazy.

Superhawk,

It's  the only position that I can get in but it will only allow  cat  naps  (an  hour at most)  here and  there.  It is truly enough to drive  you nuts.  It's  amazing,  I used to think that it was just  me.

When I lay down,  all the  pressure  just drops  to that side of  the  head like a dagger  and  increases  to the point that you have to jump right up.  Then  your   neck is stiff from sitting up and.................uh

Trust me -- I know  what you're  feeling.   Hope  you get relief  soon.

I, too can occasionally get relief by getting out of bed but, not every time.  I DO find that if I trey to stay in bed when the demon 1st wakes me, I bring it on stronger and faster - I have to get STRAIGHT up when I wake up or I'm toast!

I have had a couple neuros tell me to try exercising hard at first sign of a cluster but I dont get any real warning

 Grin
I have always been upset about exercise as I find it very hard to find a happy medium with CH.  Laying around brings it on but ANY extra movement (swimming, stretching, walking, laughing, ((living Undecided)) etc, makes pain rush my system.  I still try but it's a real killer, every time!
I hope others have better luck with exercise, I am getting quite portly these days Grin

wishing you all PF days AND
nights!!!!!!
