Doc just prescribed Inderal for me today. Is anyone taking this? If so, has it helped you?

Yes, I started 60 mg time release Inderal on 2-25-06, along with maxalt. I was having a pain level 8 ch every two hours. The Inderal reduced the pain level to 4 to 7 for most ha, by the end of the 2nd day. The maxalt is an equivalent to 10 mg, but is 14 or so mg. I cut them into 1/4ths and take them at the 1st sign of trigiminial nerve burning & tingling. 1/4 is pretty mild but if I catch it on the way in, it works. If I miss the beginning, it doesn't and had several pain level 7 & 8s. At the end of the 1st week, the dry mouth set in. Still much better off than without it but yesterday and last night had back up to 8. Today is back down to 5 - 6. January 2002, I took 40 mg of Inderal twice a day, starting at pain level 9, with a cluster ha every hour and 1 to 4 migraines daily. For that cycle, at that stage, it eased the spasm and switched some ha to the left side, and nothing else, so that cycle and that dose it did not work. For this cycle, at this stage, I consider the time release 60 mg Inderal a success, but I'm guarded about my enthusiasm. It knocked the pain level back enough that I feel like a human.

I am glad it is working for you. It did nothing for me. However, I am taking lisinopril an ace inhibitor (for blood pressure) and I haven't had any ha in days migraine or ch.

It didn't help me when I was on it, seem to recall the same dosage at 60 mg. Hope it works well for you, keep us informed.

It's a old time migraine med adopted for cluster but has a poor track record. Much better meds to be used now available. Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor. It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH. (2002) http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/chtherapy.pdf

RC, I apologize. The medication that didn't work in 2002 for me was Atenolol, not Inderal. The Inderal was April 2002 and I didn't keep good notes. I wasn't in a pain cycle but the Dr wanted me to try it anyway, and it produced some interesting hallucinations and counteracted my allergy medicine so I stopped it. The Inderal is working now. It knocked the pain level back several notches. Will see how it works as the cycle progresses. I am grateful for how it is working now.

Hi, i used inderal 8 years ago. It worked for 3 months, but then the clusters returned. I also gained 2 stone in that time. However it is worth a go... I have been taking VERAPAMIL tablets for 2 years now and have been %97 free from clusters since..... Would recommend to all.............. All the best Mike.......
