Hi all, This is really starting to get to me. Just like last year at this same time. The CH’s started a little back in October, and axert worked. Now they are coming fast and furious, now prednisone only works while I am on it. A couple of ER visits in the middle of the night recently caused me to get my own personal Imitrex injectors. I really hate needles, so it really has to be ramping up for me to go to phase-2, self-injection. Unfortunately, I now see that taking axert, as a phase-1 approach, is not recommended in combination with phase-2. This helps to explain some tightness in and around the neck area that follows doing a phase-1, followed by a phase-2. I need a new abort plan, what is everyone else doing these days, anything new since last year? Brian

Try imitrex or zomig nasal spray. It works as fast as injections and you don't have to deal with injecting yourself. The tradeoff is there is some nasal drainage. I usually squirt the ns then drink a coke-cola. It kills the nasty aftertaste. In 6-15 min. your pain free.

Maybe, You could try a smaller needle? The trex auto injectors are rather large. Check it out with the doc. (insulin type needles are smaller. But you dont like needles maybe the auto injectors are the ticket. (you dont see the needle) I wait till the lesser of two evils becomes ubearable. That would be about a KIP 5 x 10 min. and then ya baby ya. O2,clusterbusters.com If your invovled with a fast and furious episode it may have to get hit with another abort..DHE...another triptan..lots of different stuff to beat the demon with. All the best to ya jb BTW:NEVER MIX TRITANS

I am with Chewy, Try Oxygen, 12-15 liters per min, non-rebreather mask. 15 to 20 minutes should be enough. Possibly slam a can of Red Bull when it first sets in. Some of us will stand in a really hot shower. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!! Dragnlance

Thank you all, I really appreciate all the support and insight. It really sucks when my prescription plan puts limits on the amount of medication I am allowed in a 1-month period. I am getting a little panicky, as this months new supply will dwindle rapidly the way things are going for me lately. Brian

For some people, vigorous exercise is a trigger. For some people, it does nothing. But for others, it's a very, very effective abortive. I certainly suggest figuring out which side of the line you stand.

If the trex works for you see if you can get the vials. I happen to have very good insurance however they put a limit on the statdose. I can get a hell of a lot more vials without a problem. If you can not, split the doses using the imitrex tip! OR ZYPREXA!!!!!! a kick ass abortive and substantially cheaper than any of the meds Oxygen is still abortive of choice!!!

Abort arsenal for me. Normal hits. 1.) Grad and slam a Red Bull 2.) Turn on my O2 to 12 lpm and start breathing through my Clustermasx 3.) If 1. and 2. are ineffective and it keeps ramping up, then Imitrex Statdose. Abort arsenal for me. Exercise induced/overheated hits. 1.) Grad and slam a Red Bull 2.) Ice bag for behind neck 3.) Turn on my O2 to 12 lpm and start breathing through my Clustermasx 3.) If 1., 2. and 3. are ineffective and it keeps ramping up, then Imitrex Statdose. Good luck.\ Scott

| I'll start by saying I hate prednisone, but it did break my last three cycles. Typically 60-80mg for up to 5 days until the cycle breaks and then taper. How long were you on the pred and at what dosage?
