Do your clusters occur on the same side of the head as the side you would normally comfortably go to sleep on. I normally sleep on my left side & that’s the same side I get the clusters. I don’t think this will prove anything but would be interesting just to know. Kind Regards Barry

I sleep on both sides, but.... I've been sleeping on my right side (CH on left) and ended up with vertigo real bad. Started sleeping on left side and vertigo went away. Get hit around 4-4:30 anyhow, so ...... don't know if that makes any sense or not, but I sleep on left side now.... at least the vertigo isn't there. Hugs BD

Sleep on left generally, CH right. Sometimes dont sleep at all, sometimes sitting upright, sometimes when its bad I sleep sitting on the floor with head against the wall or standing with head on the counters. I sleep any way I can get it.

Funnily enough I sleep on the the opposite side to the left handed headaches which is linked from nights gone by long ago. However, for me, sleeping on my back is not an option since occasionally I do get accused of snoring. The only physical proof of this comes from the bruises inflicted on me by a wife trying to get a decent night's sleep!!!!

Gobby, Try the melatonin. sounds like you're getting hit in the REM sleep. Melatonin will get you thru that... but it takes a few days (weeks) to get in your system). Stay with it a few weeks before you say it's not working. Hugs BD

Sometimes I come home drunk and pass out face down on the lawn or in the planter. When this happens I have the headaches on both sides. They usually go away when the sprinklers come on. Pain left, sleep right, shake right and dudley do right.

Barry, So weird...I was thinking of asking this same question!! I was just telling my neurologist at my last appt (a couple weeks ago) that I have to sleep on the right side. My clusters and also the constant migraine are on the right. I told him that I'm sure it sounds strange, but the right side of my head feels heavier, and so I have to sleep on the right. It feels like there is too much pressure in my head if I sleep on the left. Sound familiar at all? I thought I was the only strange one! Carrie

My normal preference to sleep is on my right hand side, CH on right. I have tried sleeping on the left when in cycle but it makes no difference. (just feels like a ton of bricks wants to press through my scull) Also tried like Sean to sleep with my head facing different directions but still no go. Best thing in cycle is to sleep at a 45 deg angle with an icepack under the CH side and a fan blowing at the top of your head. Still get the nightly wake-up call but then not so intense.

To answer Barry, no, I sleep on both sides. But not at the same time. on Jan 5th, 2006, 8:51pm, Sean_C wrote:I have to sleep facing the west, feet to the south. Clusters right side always. Sean...................................... |
| Sean, it sounds like your clusters are magnetically induced. Try gluing a magnet to your left temple at night.

...hmm. i sleep on both sides, and get hit mostly on the left...but sometimes on the right. (early am) when I pass out at night in the midst of a level 3, It bothers me to sleep on the "wrong-side" so if left side hurts I have to press left side into the pillow... I may be fooling myself, but it tends to "hurt less" than if I try to lay on right side... I really feelthat the nostril stuffing up has to do with whichever side I am sleeping on, and that aggrivates the pain...so hmmm. good thoughts, just again no one has a clear pattern....

I comfortably sleep on my right and attacks occur on my right. I've had to switch to sleeping on my left or back. It may all be in my head (pardon the pun) but it seems sleeping on my right triggers more frequent/severe attacks. Tom
