A shadow for me is a dull pain in the area where the CH usually hits me, I use it as an indication that i'll be hit later that day. Ice packs and red bull can shift a shadow for me. Hope this is of some use to you chap. PFDAN to ya mate Paul.

I push my fingers into my eyes, It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache, But it's made of all the things I have to take, Jesus it never ends it just works its way inside, If the pain goes on, I AM gonna make it.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xps7AM8HbjE

My shadows feel like the beast is lurking just beneath the surface. Not a full blown ch but, just enough pain that makes me aware that I have this God awful condition. Beth

Same thing in the same location, but much weaker than a brain fry. A tiddler. Pretty much anything under a kip 4. A chickenshit hit. The interesting thing about them is that they're usually fairly easy to kill--a cup of coffee or a red bull will do it. Neither coffee nor red bull will kill a full-blown hit for me. Best, George

Dave, are your `regular headaches' when you are in cycle or not. I get what I think people mean by a shadow, an annoyance, but nothing more, in the same place as the real hit - when in cycle. Between cycles I get regular headaches - what I would call a hangover type headache - probably up to 4 times a week. These start as just an annoyance over my forehead, but get progressively more irratating, not severly painful, over the course of the day if I don't do something about them. An imigran tablet usually does the trick in about 30 minutes, so they must be related. Mike

Sorry Dave, didn't realise you were chronic. The one thing that keeps me going in a cycle is knowing that it will eventually end. I can't imagine what you must go through. You have my respect my friend Mike

Hello Everyone: I'm with you all about the shadows. I used to call them "feeling headachy". It's enough to make me feel anxious, but not enough to dance the dance with the beast. A strong cup of coffee or some Ibuprophen will usually kick them, but the beast may be right around the corner. As an aside, any former Babylon 5 fans out there? Those shadows were something else entirely.... Heading into my cluster period today, had one bad hit, keeping my imitrex close to hand..... Wishing you all PF days and nights, Ray

I'm having a headache (3-4 on the pain scale) 24/7 for the past couple of months on the same side as my hits. Nothing seems to get rid of it. Tried the redbull but no effect. Ibuprofen does nothing. This is only the 2nd cycle I've ever had. I had a brief remission of about 9 days. Are these shadows? The hits have started coming in the last couple of days (kip 7 max so far). Any suggestions on what to try for the ongoing shadows?

Now I can label my "shadows" correctly not regular headaches ,cause those are in my forehead, kinda like a hangover. But what you call shadows I used to call clusters that never quite came on .Like they would start but fizzle out now there just Shadows.Thanks. Dave

I have two kinds of shadows...one kind is like a hit trying to happen but doesn't quite make it, I think that's when the verapamil and topamax are actually doing their job! I either walk around a lot, drink some red bull or diet coke depending on how bad they are...try to just ignore it. It hurts but its a more ignorable type of pain. They can be real quick too I've had some shadows that last only a minute or so. With this type nothing comes later and that's it for a few hours. The other type of shadow tends to be a little less intense and somehow just doesn't feel like a real hit but less (the first comes with the other symptoms too) and tends to be a warning of something to come later. Also what might help....I used to be confused and call what a few people here have termed residual pain shadows...that regular sort of headache that comes after hits. Caffeine is good to get rid of that for me, so is about 800mg of ibuprofen...but like anything here ask your dr first. Lisa

pressure in my ch area... either the start of a ch or sometimes it just sits there messing with me making me sweat whether it's going to turn into a full blown ch or not.
