My name is Josh.  When I was 9 I had to have bladder reconstructive as well as kidney surgery.  Soon after my surgery I started to have bad headaches.  Two years later I had an aracnoid cyst taken off of my frontal lobe and left optical nerves.  After this surgery I had very few headaches.  That was until I turned 18.  I remember my first CH.  I have thought for the last 11 years that my headaches were after pains from my surgery.  My neurosurgeon that did the surgery diagnosed herself with a brain tumur and quit her practice and past away.  She was the only person who I thought understood what was going on in my head.  For the next years I quit going to Drs. because I allready knew what they would say.  "I want to look at your file and get you to a c/t machine, in the meantime here are some vicodin".  Thanks, but no thanks.  They always forget the part about haveing only one opterational kidney.  I have not been to a Dr. in 8 years.  I have been suffering through it every year at each of the daylight savings time.  Two cycles  a year for about 4 to 8 weeks each cycle.  I am a lefty as far as ch goes.  That happens to be the same side my brain surgery was on.  I just found this site this morning.  I cant wait to have my wife look at it.  She has been so supportive of my pain, and never has told me to just suck it up.  She was sent from the Lord above.  Well I look forward to getting to know some people that can relate to what I go through.   Thank you all for the future help and support.

Please do start reading! There are so many treatment options available now, even to someone like yourself who has the kidney issues.

First please read up on the oxygen link. For many including myself, it has been a life saver. Started at the first twinge of a headache it will usually abort the headache outright for me. Stick around and please let us know what you find that works for you. I have a wife like yours, aren't they worth their weight in gold? Welcome to your new second home.

Hi Josh, and welcome.  I'm sorry that you are having such a hard time of it.  I'm also sorry that I cannot address all of the previous surgeries you have had to suffer through, and have no idea as to whether it contributed to cluster headaches or not.  This is way beyond my knowledge.

Please read all of the information provided in the buttons to the left of your screen.  Take the cluster quiz and let us know how you fared.  Read up on the oxygen treatment.

Are you taking any preventative medications, any abortive medications now?  Give us as much information you can about your cycles, your hits as you can.  We'll do our best to help you in any way we can.

I have been doing some reading, and I have new hope.  It seems that I am one of the lucky ones.  My cycle is only twice a year and I only get one a day during.  It usually last for four to five weeks at most.  Just knowing what is going on, and finally now I can ready myself for the next one, has given me new strength.  Thank you for all of you being out there.  I will keep you all in my prayers.   I have some more reading to do.
