I'm back

the name's Ryan

i've been here a year or two ago, but i can't remember my username, so ....

i'm back in a patch of headaches again. it started up mildly as soon as the weather started shifting from warm to cool. i use verapamil (but i really don't feel like its doing anything sometimes). i've used imitrex spray in the past, it never worked that great. now i'm using the injections. they work good so far. but its VERY expensive as you all know for 2 uses. my o2 tank works awesome most of the time. but its not always easy to take with me everywhere.

so here i am missing work today from almost constant headaches. i would really like to find a good preventative drug. i noticed talk around here about the kudzu root. i'm going to ask my dr. about this today.

well i'm glad to see this site is still around, but its terrible that so many of us have to endure this terrible burden. thanks for such a great resource!

One of the new things around here since you were here last is trying the high caffeine drinks like Red Bull, Rock Star, etc.   Get the ones with Taurine in the list of ingredients as that helps too.
Compared to other things it's cheap and it is certainly portable.    Welcome back Ryan. Hope you can find some relief.

Hi Ryan

Sorry your PF time ended.  Besides the kudzu (which apparently has worked for many (haven't tried yet), there's other stuff you need to be aware of.

Glad you have the 02, but you may not be aware of the new "Clustermasx" which is getting rave revues from many . . ."much more effective" . . . I ordered mine yesterday.

    http://www.clustermasx.com/

Also, don't discount the "water X 3" therapy (link on left).  I'm absolutely convinced this therapy has helped me reduce the frequency/intensity of attacks.  It takes a LOT of water . . . but you can't beat the price.

  Welcome back to the family,

If you're caffeine-free because of some ailment which you and your Dr. agree on, then carry on.

But caffeine acts as a vasoconstrictor and a vasoconstrictor  is what we need during a headache.  It is in a lot of meds we take like the Triptans, because the vessels swell up to 20 times their normal size causing pain.  The Taurine sorts of acts like a booster to the caffeine in these drinks.

thanks for the info on the o2 mask, Richard  Smiley

the reason i'm off caffiene is because i'm very sensitive to it. probably due to my left bundle branch block (one quadrant of my heart doesn't beat right). and also, i think it messes with my epilepsy. but its definitely something i can talk to my doctor about.

And also interacts with Verapamil in a really bad way!

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

you may have tried it before, but if you arent anti-another-prescription preventative, im seeing some good benefits from topamax.  i got started on it cuz i had a bad neurologist at first that thought i just had really bad migraines that came together so he put me on normal migraine medicine (im seeing a good neurologist and since topamax was diong a little already kept me on it but added verapamil after dx clusters)
i know lots of people hate topamax but if you do the build up reaaaaally slowly you will have better luck at avoiding the stupidity side effects.  the only side effects ive had is some weight loss.  if you try make sure you do it slow, i think i did 2 weeks at 25 and 2 weeksk at 50..im on 100mg now with 240 of verapamil with a lighter weight than the general cluster population.
hope you find some relief whatever you try.
