Greetings everyone, My name is Marc (a.k.a. Persala) and I'm a newb to the boards and to CH. Let me just start by saying that this board is a GODSEND! I've have gotten a lot of good and useful information from here. My stroy starts about 3-4 weeks ago. I started to get really bad headaches on my left side and my eye felt like it was going to pop out. After a couple days of this I went to my Dcotor's office and saw one of his assistants (my primary was on vacation). She thought it was perhaps due to my allergies and gave me some Nasonex to take. That didn't help. Was back a few days later and she said even though my sinuses werew only slightly swollen it could be a sinus infection and prescribed some amoxicillin. She also had me set up an appt to have a MRI done to rule out anything else. She also, said if the headaches got worse, get to an ER. That Saturday I had my wife take me to the ER because my headache was going on for about 4 hours (usually it wouls hit for 30-90 mins) and I was getting nervous. The ER doctor was the one who finally diagnosed the CH and gave me some good info to read on it and he also gave me a script for Imitrex capsules 50 mg. I have a congenital valve defect (bicuspid aortic valve to be exact) and take some meds for that so I had to wait for my cardiologist to give me the ok to take this new medicine (which she did btw). When I came home from the ER, I did a google search and found this site. After reading a few of the posts, I said to myself "that's EXACTLY how I react when this hits". It was like somebody was watching me go through it and posted it on the board. I just had the MRI done this past Thrusday so hopefully I'll hear from the doctor next week about the results, and hopefully it's nothing more serious. BTW, if you ever have an MRI done and they give you a copy of the CD, take a look at it, it's some pretty cool stuff. : ) Hopefully I'm on the downslope of the cycle, as the headaches are less and less intense, and I'm now only getting them once every 2-3 days. Coffee and icepacks are my new best friends, next to my wife. /wink Lastly, I will not let the beast win this fight. It may win a battle here or there, but ultimately I will win the war. When I first fould out about my heart condition (it was misdiagnosed until I was in my early 30's), I became somewhat depressed and a homebody until I came to terms with it. I will not let these CH's put me back into that same funk again, no matter what. I owe it myself and to my wife to not allow that to happen again. Well, that's pretty much it in a nutshell. If anyone ever wants to chats, just drop me a line. Peace out, Pers

Welcome to the boards and by all means get reading!!!! Lots of valuable info here. With your heart issued you're going to find some of our more popular meds might not work. Please read the oxygen link on the left and talk to your doctor about it. When started at the first hint of a headache it aborts the majority of mine. Many people have had great success with it, read the links cuz it has to be used right or it won't work at all. Welcome to the board, I do hope you find the help you need. Guiseppi

Hi Marc & Welcome I can't take Imitrex (some arterie blockage and high cholesterol) . . . so 02 is my only abortive. Works for 60-70% of us to abort an attack . . . inexpensive and little(or no) side effects. Most on this board who use Imitrex use the injectables . . . works in 5-7 min (is my understanding) . . . which is important because the attacks ramp-up so fast. The pills are generally regarded as worthless because they take too long to take effect. Nasal spray is supposed to be better, but still not as effective as the injectables. Read up on Melatonin to help with night hits. Kudzu seems to be helping many people. There's a host of preventives and nothing on the market that someone here hasn't tried. You have much reading to do and many questions to ask . . . fire away . . . you've hit the motherlode of CH info/caring/sharing. Be Safe. PFDANs Richard
