Hello! Newbie. Dh suffers from CHs....

and my step-dad had them too. When my dh started having them, I knew right away waht was going on. The difference was dealing with military medicine as a retiree took dh over 4 years of pain to finally see a specialist and under good care with the specialist but the military will not release him to a civilian doctor. A very long story on the horrible care he received at the base hospital when the CHs were full blown and we had more meds then a pharmacy! A congressional battle is about to start as the base admits their care for do was poor but will not let him go because he is a bean in their count. Sorry. a sore spot and of course more stress on dh which causes more CH. Anyway, I will have to get the meds to write the prooper names of what is helping but do want to ask if any of you live in the Pacific Northwest? Also dh and I think that a sinus propblem could be triggering his CH as he has a huge amount of mucus after a CH. Anyone experiencing this? Thank you for reading and looking forward to meeting some PNWers and other wives of CH dhs. I feel so helpless but supportive as possible. Not thrilled to think I'd have to use the injections that dh has been given however! TIA

Welcome aboard. Mucus after and or during an attack is common with CH. My right nostril will run continuously during a hit and for 5-10 min. after. Sorry you are having trouble with VA. the VA medical system has become such a fiefdom for bureaucrats and has become profitable to so many of them they resist all efforts to reform them. Unfortunately some of the centers are good, while others leave our people to suffer needlessly. You didn't mention what branch of the service your husband was in. I know that the Marine Corps League has done a lot to correct problems for some of their members who have not received proper treatment. If he is a member of a retired military organization of that sort he should have them look into the situation for him. Read the information here on the site carefully. There are a lot of things you can do to help alleviate his pain without having to go through VA. Red Bull has been very helpful to me. O2 works well for others, and if you cannot get a scrip from VA you can use welding oxygen instead for a fairly reasonable price. Check out the Oxygen info button on the left. Please ask questions if you need help. You have found a family that understands you and what you are going through, and there is almost alway someone around when you need help. On the weekend there aren't as many of us on the board as at other times, but someone is usually around. Jerry

Hello and welcome, I am also a supporter for my DH who has CH. During a CH attack, the trigeminal nerve is irritated and it causes the affected eye to water and the sinus on that side to produce mucus. Its called autonomic nerve reaction and its caused by the CH, not the other way around. Read everything on the board especially the front page and all the links on the left hand side. Take care and PF wishes to you and your husband. Annette

Welcome Mermaidmama. Where are you located? You say you are retired? We too are military. It's my son that has Ch. We are in san diego. I know it is different when you are a depentant but Dh says that the military member can be referred out just as easy. PM me if you want. If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.

| I'm really sorry your husband suffers. What you feel is quite normal. I'm a sufferer, and I feel helpless sometimes when I try to support someone. You sound like a great supporter. Remember to take some time for yourself every now and again. We have a very good section on the board for supporter's. Maybe you could visit there sometime, and read the posts from others who support, as you do. PF wishes for your hubby, Jean
