Hi all. My night time hits are starting to really get me down.I had a head twisting 3 hr hit last night and ive been shuffling round like an old man all day. Ive seen melatonin mentioned on here, can anyone advise me as to affectiveness? Is it a "serious"drug or expensive etc? Id like to be as pre-armed as possible tomorrow when i go back to the docs. Were very lucky here in the uk to have the national health service but it does make the doctors very reticent to prescribe drugs which are expensive. He's gonna be so happy tomorrow when i ask for more imigran injections!!!Well tough!! Many thanks guys Big up the midlands massive Simon.

Since you do have the "typical" wake you up in the middle of the night horrors then.... Melatonin might be very helpful Many of us (myself included) have found that taking 6-9mg (some take more) about a 1/2 hour to 45minutes prior to bed have Knocked out the night visits and can finally get sleep. With the exception of 10-12 times.....I have slept through the night since August '04 (went chronic in March 05).....Still get hit during the day but my overall quality of life is better because I am not as exhausted all the time. Some people report that it seems to make them worse....The fact is that we are all different and respond differently to everything therefore it may or may not... The one thing I will tell you as far as my experience was that I had to stick with it...The first night I took melatonin, I was awoken with a doozy only I was too groggy to find my O2 .....It got a lot better for me....I then slept through the night but would get slammed about 1/2 hour after waking up....kinda like knocking the beast off schedule.....then again I was peaking and this cycle has been all over the place with no real pattern. I stayed with melatonin and have had decent sleep overall. (Maybe I should start folowing my own advice again hahahaha!) It may help and it is natural with not too many sideeffects....also ask your doctor b/c if there are any side effects or contraindications...I think they have to do with mild depression..... Like I said we are all different.

To my knowledge it is not sold in the UK as asupplement that you can just get like any other vitamin. You may have to order it online. Good luck!

If you can get your hands on some, I'd say give it a try. Start out with a small dose, like 300 mcg, and if that doesn't work, increase it, I have 2 bottles, 300 mcg, and 3 mg, I find the 300 mcg's effective, and don't give me the hangover like the 3 mg's do. Two words of caution with melatonin though; 1. Don't exceed 6 mg per night, or it may have an opposite effect such as sleeplessness, and 2. be prepared for it to throw your attacks out of whack, I find I don't have severe hits during the night while taking it, but will get hit hard within a half-hour of waking. Anyway, it's worth a try if you're being woke up at night, best of luck to you.

I tried it for the first ime during my last cycle upon advice received from this board. It helped get me from 1-3 hors sleep to about 5+. A lifesaver in my book.

I took Melatonin for a long time. It worked really well for me...and it didn't throw my CH outta control. I started with 3mg. and increased by 3mg., if the CH broke thru. I have taken as much as 12mg. You can increase/decrease the dosage as needed. Like Eric said, stick with it. You may have to wait a few days to see if there's a significant change. So, don't give up on it after a couple days. For some of us, it may take longer than a couple days...for some it might work from the first dose. Good luck Simon...and let us know how you're doing. Someone usually here 24/7...in case you need to talk, or ask any questions. Sending you lots of PF vibes from Texas, Jean
