Hi Noni, Sorry you're here, but welcome. I know it's frightening, but you'll be just fine. Unbelievable as it is, they do no permanent harm--although I know that it feels like they will. It sounds like you're episodic. Just remember that it will pass. I know it will. As far as work goes, remember to do what's best for yourself. If that means going to work tomorrow, then go. If that means you have to stay home to gather your strength, do it. You are your first priority. Lots of us have lived with this for a very long time and we're available to help in any way we can. We remember what it was like when we first started with these things. The collective knowledge of the people at this site is incredible. Just remember that you're not alone. Ask any questions you like, as often as you'd like. I'm sure you have many. Let us know how you're doing. Best regards, George

| The feeling of dental pain is very common. In the past, some clusterheads even had their back teeth pulled in an effort to stop the attacks. CH is often misdiagnosed as a dental issue. It's not your teeth, though--it just feels like it. Your trigeminal nerve is misfiring, and at least one of the branches extends into that area. The icepick jabs throughout the day are also very common. Am I right in saying that they don't develop into full-blown headaches, but stab and then pass? I get them all the time in the middle of my cycle. Since you're two and a half weeks into your cycle and quite likely to be episodic (ninety percent of us are), you can expect them to peak quite soon. Typically, a cycle lasts from six to eight weeks. If you follow this pattern, you can expect to see them start to subside in a couple of weeks. They won't disappear suddenly, but will probably fade away. You mention that you often wake up with a headache. Have you seen whether this occurs approximately ninety minutes after you fall asleep? REM sleep--dreaming sleep--is a sure trigger for many of us. This is also normal. Hope you feel better soon. Follow your doctor's advice unless it's absolutely insane, and hang in there. It will pass. Best, George

Hi Noni, Welcome. I'm glad you found us, but sorry for the reason you had to. I urge you not to diagnose yourself. Work with your neurologist to discover whatever type or types of headache(s) you have. If you've been officially diagnosed with clusters, here's a resource you should know about: http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/chtherapy.pdf What you call "stabbing" pain, I call "twinges." They're common with clusters, but with other types of headaches also. Chances are you have just one syndrome - not several - you're just experiencing the various types of discomfort related to the beast. If nothing else, you'll find great support and a family here. Hugs, Kris
