Imirex in the Phils - Update on Progress

Hi All, A quick update on my progress here and some info on Imigran (Imitrex) here. O2 - It appears I can get a med O2 setup but it will be another 7 to 10 days before I can so I'm really hanging out n hoping on this. Jonny had all the good info on the welding rig but apart from the bottle of O2 everyone glazes over when I ask about masks and thread adaptors etc so I'll wait as after reading up here and PMs from Richard N it really seems the least harmful 'fix'. H2O seems to help - I just drink constantly - and I was a guy who never drank water before unless it had coffee or scotch in it. I pee like crazy but haven't had a real headbanger for a week - they stay down at Kip 5 or 6 - so I'm staying on this course. Apart from shadows in the day my attacks are at night only now - they wake me up - but they wake me at Kip 5 or 6 max after 2 hours of sleep (repeatedly per night) and here's what I do: 1. Drink enough extra water to feel ill before I sleep plus a strong coffee. 2. Make a black coffee with two tablespoons of instant coffee in a small mug with a tablespoon of sugar to soften the taste and put this petroleum looking solution in the fridge for later. 3. When I wake with an attack I jump out of bed and take a shirt with ice cubes out of the freezer and place it on my neck, forehead, eye socket, wherever it helps - then drink one or two glasses of water for my always dry throat then - force the black coffee slurry down fast - and pace. It seems to stop it escalating and go in about 20 minutes. Now as to what I found here: Kudzu - a plant that sounds the same is grown locally for cattle feed and I can get a truck load of it. The pills I can't get as we have no health food stores within 100km. I read that 9 to 15g are required daily - what to do? Just grind some root and make a cup of tea? Is there a risk the plant could be misidentified and I poison myself like picking a toadstool for a mushroom? Imigran - the only Sumatriptan I can find and the same as USA Imitrex. Sold by GlaxoSmithKline in tablet form only for US$3.72 per 50 mg tablet in packs of 2 tablets. NO INJECTABLES - DAMN! I believe the tablets are too slow to kill a Kip 8 in full swing? 300mg max per day but how many can you take in one hit when you wake with a Kip 8 or higher? Anyway - coping better and getting a little work done. With no medical insurance I have to work to pay for whatever is ahead - although the Imigran is cheap by USA prices? Thanks again for your great help and support Cheers Steve

Hi Steve, you can brew tea from kudzu root, but there's no way to measure the dosage that way. You can buy the supplements online. I used to get it from www.iherb.com You're right, Imitrex tablets won't help, they take too long. Can you get the nasal spray? pain free wishes, nani

| Kudzu in China, Japan and the US is Pueraria lobata. There is a tropical species (Pueraria mirifica) that is used as a rejuvenating tonic in SE Asia (Thailand and nearby countries) which -might- work the same on headaches. And there are several other species of Pueraria that are not used medicinally, as far as I know. And the fact that a plant looks like kudzu is not a good enough if you are thinking about eating it - it could be something althogether different. There are legumes that are poisonous, I would not be too quick to consume something unless you know what it is. Maybe someone can put a few bottles of kudzu in a balikbayan box and send it your way?? PM me if you want to try that, will see what I can do. Also, see: http://www.med-owl.com/clusterheadaches/tiki-index.php?page=Kudzu

Hi All, Barry - I used to live in KL and Dang Wangi was the nearest train station - would have been handy then! Thanks for the alibaba link on the rebreather mask. No problem with the excuse as now I found a doc who will write a scrip for anything. Welcome to the Philippines.... Nani - yes the tablets are cheap but if they don't work.... At this point no nasal spray or injectables but waiting on another reply from SmithGlaxoKline and their distys here Zuellig. Understood re the dosage variance for Kudzu. Floridian - thanks for the kudzu info. The local plant is called kudzu, grown for cattle feed, and when I show the pics online on kudzu the locals tell me that's it. I have a friend at City Hall with a University Degree in Agriculture so I'll ask him to define the species more clearly. Maybe if I took some shots with my digicam of leaves and root and posted them someone would recognize them? Your friendly local neighbourhood guinea pig... The balikbayan box may be the shot. I have a UK client who sends data for processing by FedEx and always includes my supply of English Mustard you cannot get here. Maybe I need to ask him to drop by a health store in the UK as the boxes come monthly and always have space left over. Just went 24 hours with no attack - not about to celebrate but the work I got done and the sleep I had were seriously appreciated here. Cheers Steve
