Cluster nightmare

Well, I am fairly new to this website. Unfortunately, that is not the same for my cluster headache. Yes, I am a sufferer too, and I know very well what it feels like to be a sufferer. Not for 1 year or 3, but for 13 years. Next month I will be 20 years old, so you do the math. I have suffered my whole life with this thing. My life until now has been shaped by my headache. Yes, I know what you are thinking: “you poor thing". Well, if I think back all the times that I have screamed and cried for help...well maybe it’s a little bit more than the times that our earth has revolted around the sun…ha ha ha. Well, I will write a short summary of my life until now, and what I think to be a help for those who suffer from this thing. Well, it all started when I was six years old…YES, SIX years old. I began getting those awful headaches and my mother didn’t know what to do. At least they were not as bad though. They were rare and not so painful. But as I grew older the intensity and frequency grew bigger and the suffering worse. I came from a humble family, and we didn’t have the money to afford a doctor or to buy medicine, so I just treated my headaches with cold water. In the year 2000 my country, Aruba, introduced a General Medical Expenses Insurance. That meant that I could go to a doctor and have my prescribed medications free. So I took that opportunity and went to the doctor. He began treating me with ordinary medication. But as time proceeded, neither he or I saw any improvements. So, he sent me to a neurosurgeon. One day I came for my appointment with the doctor and he told me that all my symptoms are pointing to one thing and one thing only: cluster headache. So he began treating me for it, but with no luck. At one time I was consuming about 8 pills a day! And seeing that they weren’t helping I had decided to stop taking any form of medication because I don’t think that if a person consumes that many drugs, that it will do any good to your body. After that I have visited a lot of doctors, but with no luck. Well, it has been 13 years now. So I’m much more accustom to the pain I therefore more prepared. Seeing that this pain has been with me for all my life, I know how many of you feel and what you can possibly do to treat these headaches by yourself. One thing that I have learned from cluster is that it’s like a biological clock inside your head. Every year it’s the same for me. It’s three months cluster free and three months that spell disaster. December until February, June until August are the months that my headaches are presents. And every year it’s the same. Every year they come in the same periods. And that pain…Oh yes…unbearable…no wonder that some physicians call it the “the suicide syndrome”. But I refused to take more medications, because frankly, most physicians just give you some pills to comfort your need to be less helpful. After the years I have discovered a simple and many times effective method to combat tha attack. In my case it has been really effective. That is to just have something to completely distract your mind. But I mean COMPLETELY! When you are feeling that an attack is imminent, try starting a deep conversation with somebody. You NEED something to completely distract yourself so you do not have to think about the pain anymore. An d viola, the pain will suddenly go away. Well, I have to admit that it is rather difficult to do this procedure when your in the middle of a life time crisis. That’s why you need to do it as soon as you feel an attack coming. Try watching television, start converasation or whatever. Ok, this is serious bussines, so don’t freak out for what you’re about to read. Try having sex or masturbate to a porno flick. That is a really affective way to distract your mind. Yes, dear wives, sex with your husband when he has a headache is really helpful way to really help him. I am not joking and I am speaking as an adult sufferer of cluster headache. That is to date the best way to make the pain go away. Unfortunately that may not be enough for other sufferers. I hope that I may have inspired some of you readers. I will be happy to give more advice. As a matter of fact, I think that I know more about this type of headaches than most Ph D’s! Thx for reading and hope to hear from you soon… Love, Paolo

Welcome Paolo Glad you found your methods. I too am a non med guy by choice not cost. Also suffered most of my life or at least 30 years of it but you began much younger than I. You may be a great guide to some of the younger sufferers who come to this site. TV for me is a trigger, Sex is good but after the 5th round a day she seems to have a headache too when theres still another 5 to go. So I have to resort to pushups. And the last thing I want is a deep conversation when I feel an attack coming on. stay in touch, stick around, got a handle on it, no matter how I say that it doesnt sound right considering your methods and I have this picture in my mind of Linda saying "we may not be able to help you, but we'll give it one hell of a try".
