Now I'm startin to freak out...
« on: Dec 17th, 2007, 1:29pm »

Had my 28 week OB appt. today and did the Gestational Diabetes drink thingy then had my blood drawn an hour later.  That's standard, but what is definately NOT standard with my past pregnancies is measuring BIG for my dates!  4 weeks ago doc measured my belly at 24cm.  Today it is 32cm!! Shocked  I'm freaking out here!  I asked him what will happen if she IS big, and he said that if when I'm in labor, dialated all the way and am pushing to no avail, that they'll know why and I'd probably end up with a c-section OR if baby is breech.

I dunno when the results of the GD test will be back, but I am not likin the sounds of possible surgery. Sad  I mean I'm gonna go through with anything that needs to be done to have a healthy baby, but I'm still scared.

Damn this anxiety disorder!!! Angry

OR...little miss fraidy cat,  Maybe the Dr. just miscalculated the time you became pregnant and you are closer to your due date than you both thought.   Undecided

Mel,

Calm down -- you don't know anything for SURE yet. Wait till the tests come back and they tell you somethin' for certain and then you can plan for it. If you need a C-section then that's what we'll have... healthy baby is our objective.

Now go bake some cookies....

Linda, baby has already been dated by ultrasound twice, so we know for sure when she was conceived.  And yes, I am a fraidy cat!  Before I developed this stupid disorder I was so laid back and always went with the flow.  Now I'm just a big spazzed out mess!!

My kids are all growed now but we still laugh at the second pregnancy. She had too much amniotic fluid, baby only had 2 vessels in the umbillical instead of the usual 3, had excess skin tissue on her neck, all signs of major birth defect potential!

She had to do weekly non stress tests the last 3 months of pregnancy, bed rest the last month, they had a pediatrician standing by in the birthing room.............

All that worry and stress produced Patty, as perfect a child as has ever been produced! (In daddy's humble opinion!)

Wish I could alleviate all your stress, but I know that won't happen so all you gets is a big hug! hug

Sorry,  I guess I forgot how far Ultra-sound technology has come even in the last 20 years.  NOW...go make a cup of tea and sit down with your feet up.  All will be fine Mel.  It really will.

Dear Spazzed Out Fraidycat,
Peoples been birthin babies longer than Carters been makin lil liver pills!  It's your Dr's job to anticipate issues which may.......ORR may not crop up!
It is your obligation, as a mommie, to take all of this into consideration..................but, wouldja please take Auntie Linda's good advice.......go brew some HERBAL tea, put your feet up, and go to your happy place................y'know...Christmas, Snowflakes, happy kids, a loving husband...........you can do this, Melly! I know!
Dana was born with an undeveloped pair of lungs.......we discovered this when she was 3 weeks old..She could inhale, but not exhale, and her lungs blew up like a balloon..I thought I was gonna die, because I thought she was gonna die. We got past that, her lungs healed, then finished their development, and 32 years later, she, like Guiseppi's Patty, is fine....100%.

Of course, I still worry about her.........then I go make a cup of tea, put my feet up and count all of my blessings...

Wish I could bring you a cup of tea, Mel, and a big ole hug......

Mel,
I understand you being nervous but staying as calm as can be is the best.are you still making blankies and such? knitting can be relaxing,so I hear I don't have the patience to learn.c-section aren't fun but they aren't anything to stress over.April and Beth were both c-sections.April was laying sideways and little miss Beth had her shoulder wedged solid in between my ribs.I believe you don't feel the pain quite as much and heal better then some other surgeries.you concentrate so hard on taking care of the baby that you become second thought. The one thing I would change is I wish I was awake to see them right after birth.I was a chicken...in my sence....and was out.My niece just had a son 2 weeks ago by c-section and was awake and fine through the whole thing. She's doing great now as will you. They allow husbands in so Jesse won't miss a thing and you won't be alone.Billy was there even though I was put asleep.I will pray for a easy "regular" delivery for you.You and the Baby will be fine no matter which way you deliver.
  Minnie
p.s. is that tea ready yet?

Hi Mel,

You've already been given some great advice.

I've never had a c-section but my wife had two - #6 and #10.  The recovery is a little longer but its nothing to be going crazy about.  Given the choice she always opts for natural but both c-sections were warranted.

So if they end up going that route it'll be for the best and that is what this is all about isn't it.  Your health and the babies health.

Worry about what you can control and leave the rest where it is.  I know it's easier said than done but get that cup-o-tea and give it a shot.

I had a high risk pregnancy and they told me all sorts of bad things woulda/coulda/shoulda happened.

I didn't gain enough weight, the baby girl was gonna be too small, she would be premature, had an operation at 14 weeks because I went into labor too early . . . . .

I have a healthy BOY who was delivered one week early by their time table (induced) and he was 6 pounds 14 ounces  - well within expected parameters.

Don't let them freak you out.  It's your job to process what they tell you, not react and freak out.

Sit back, put your feet up and remember this is the last time you'll do this (right?) so enjoy as much of it as you can.

Oh - and we love you too.

I am more calm now, thank you.  I am just scared to death to end up with one of those horror story births where I'm in hours of labor with nasty nurses and no one listens to me!

I'll be alright tho. Smiley
